i always loved his work with zappa. he was in some of zappa's best bands, '73, '74, and '75. back then, he was known for his keyboard soloing talent, but one of his most overlooked skills was that he was a rock hard funky rhythm section player behind zappa's guitar playing.
a lot of his later work, late 70's/early 80's, i don't particularly like. it was that type of "smooth jazz/light r&b" stuff that i don't particularly care for. i think the same about stanley clarke. great player, great early work, went soft in later years. ------------------------------------------------

Good Morning Everyone. Yes I love George Duke. Especially his late 70's and early 80's music. Brazilian Love Affairmade my 25 greatest jazz albums of all time list. That album is brillant. My favorite track by him though is "I Want You For Myself" from the album Master Of The Game. I also loved "Shine On" from 1982. To me now he is just coasting... playing a lot of smooth jazz stuff...ZZZ But I still respect him as a musician and as a producer. I love the stuff he did for Deniece Williams. | |
