I think he's got a great voice!

Heard a bit of his stuff, old school and new'er' school?

Whitney Houston got her start singing back-up for him.

Yeah I have collections of "Howard Melvin & Bluenotes" and Teddy solo. I dig him for sure.

Anybody ever read his book, "Truly Blessed?"

Wasn't too bad.

"Don't Leave Me This Way" - Thelma Houston

Both equal? You like one better than the other?

Remember Teddy's 1979 album titled 'Teddy'? I LOVE the song "I'll Never See Heaven Again".That is one of Gamble and Huff's greatest productions, imo.

Other songs on that album include "Come Go With Me" and "Turn Off The Lights".But nothing can top "I'll Never See Heaven Again",that song kicks ass!!

One of my top 5 favorite male vocalists of all time. I grew up back in tha day on this dude. Had no choice as my mom would play his albums for hours on in. She especially played his debut 1977 album Teddy Pendergrass. Teddy just had a great baritone masculine voice that is much needed in R&B music now. He was influecned by another amazing singer Marvin Junior from the group The Dells. But Teddy took Marvin's style augmented and yet created his own vocabulary. Another masterwork album from him is his 1978 album Life Is A Song Worth Singing. Well actually all of his records from 1977 to 1982 is recommended listening.

To this day I still think the GREATEST song in terms of vocals in ALL of music history is Teddy's song "You're My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration". Every note is right where it is supposed to be. And it's hard to be that falsetto yell of his at the climax of the song. AMAZING!!!

I think when he had that auto accident which confined him to a wheelchair that's when Luther took over as R&B's elite male vocalist.

That's a tough one because I really like both versions.I probably have a bit more affection for the Thelma Houston version, simply because it's more Disco...lol...

The Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes album 'Wake Up Everybody'(1975) is one of my favorite albums from the 70s.Producers Gamble and Huff were at the top of their game. The song "You Know How To Make Me Feel So Good" is simply heavenly!!
