Vanessa Carlton goes ghetto (aka V) signs deal with "Murder Inc"???!

Vanessa Carlton checked in with fans on her official web site's forum on Sunday (October 1). "Hi my sweet peeps," V writes. "So I go back into the studio in LA in October to do another batch of songs for the record. Very refreshed and ready. I anticipate a spring release. I recently signed with Irv Gotti at The Inc at Universal. Doug Morris and Jolene Cherry are also overseeing the project. I'm working with amazingly passionate, MUSICAL people. I love that it's such an unexpected move too. No my name has not been changed to 'V', but V is my nickname for some and has been for a while. Will check in from LA. xo v"

So I guess her "goth" makeover for her second album didn't give her much success?

Some people will do anything for the spotlight.

I knew I hated the bint the moment I heard her whiny, bleating diary-driven piano drivel the first time. I would walk 1,000 miles just to not hear her again!

I wonder if "60 Minutes" will do another profile on her, given this dizzying range of turns...

She won't get real press until she goes the Britney/Christina route...

Let's pray that she never does...

Yeah, that song's piano hook seemed like a blatant rip-off of Copeland-style music... and it reminded me of a wildlife show's theme song... Can't recall the title... doh!

I hope she never does either. There are enough wannabe heirs to the Britney/Christina throne.

Yeah. The "60 Minutes" piece, done a few years ago, mentioned the marketing muscle that was behind her image, as i recall.

Who knows? In 50 years, she might be everyone's favorite torchsong singer...

G'night, dude. That sig still cracks me up. Poor Pluto.

This is what I guess we would call the "Nelly Furtado" effect.
You better belive any artist that is unable to have succesful sophmore album will be pushed into the "urban" market

Hell even Bjork recorded 8 tracks with Timbaland for her new record ( Although I have feeling this Bjork album will be the benchmark for all cross over hip hop albums)

I could actually see Bjork doing "Maneater"

The hook came from a commercial that was on about 20 years ago. It was about "Beef". It showed a group of cowboys, roping a set of cattle. She took the hook from the begining music of this commerical.

Yeah, that's the music of Aaron Copeland I was referencing earlier. The piece is called "Rodeo."
