by whose staNdards? the org..HMMPH! That too But I still think that she didn't get the full credit for her influence, somehow her mention gets overshadowed when you throw Lady Day and Ella's name into the discussion. BTW, Dinah Washington is TOO underrated.

If you're expecting fans of Fergie, Janet or Mariah to cheer, then you're wasting your time. test

Rhondab said: you think she's underrated..... Maybe so Well, I think her mention is not that exclusive. Her influence made an impact but I think the youngster(and some of the elders too) are not hipped to her than she deserves. Am I representing my ideas THAT hardly? I was too introduced to Sassy's world by mother,,,,this is the MOST famous record around my household back in the day: Her version of "They Can't Take That Away" is the ultimate IMO.

BTW, Dinah Washington is TOO underrated. Yeah, Dinah Washington really doesn't get her props, She was very Influential! And she had that stylistic range - She would do Jazz , R&B, Blues and Pop! I was just writing in another thread about Weather Report's Joe Zawinul, and one of his first gigs in the US was playing piano for Dinah Washington. He always mentions how much he learned playing with her...But that made me remember Quincy Jones on TV telling a funny story about Zawinul being in her band...he's originally from Austria...anyway, one day, Dinah had everyone over to eat, and she had cooked some greens, some down-home Greens! and Joe had some...and Quincy said that Joe came back and announced, "Man, that's the best Spinach I ever had in My Life!!!" ... Goddamn
Dinah helped Quincy when he was going through depression in Europe back in 1956, he commited failed-suicide and she did what she could to pull him off from that period. That whole period made him AWARE of the biz side of the industry(which he took for granted untill he went bankrupt). Patti Austin was one of Dinah's young protegees. I realized this lately.
