People you should like

It's probably been done before, but I'm curious - who are some artists or even albums that you think (or others think) you should like, based on the things you already do like and the things that everyone else seems to think are great. I've got a list a mile long full of those kinds of people - something in me tells me that if I'd listen more maybe I would like them - but I just can't bring myself to.

And you?

I could never get into David Bowie´s music although I liked him as person based on one interview that I´ve seen with him.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

These aren't artists I dislike. I just feel like I should LOVE them based on the other stuff I listen to.

And I own things by all of them, but just can't seem to have a breakthrough with any of it.

Beck
Elvis Costello

I remember when my wife and I were dating a few years ago. It was late at night and we were sitting up listening to the radio. All of a sudden this weird song comes on, And this guy whispers "Last Night I Dreamed We Were Eskimos, And We Were Eating Doggy Doo-Doo Snow Cones!" We laughed through the whole song. When the dj said the song was by Frank Zappa, My wife said "What kind of LSD did he take that made him come up with that song?

Supposedly, if you dig metal (or any of its subgenres), you're supposed to bow down to Slayer, but I find their stuff monotonous. confused

lol There were my favorite band back in 2003-2004. Listening to Fallen today, I now hear the overly slick pop production and boring nu-metal guitar riffs. They'd be better if they were rawer, like on their no-longer-in-print debut Origin.

Im scared to get in2 Miles Davis, because Im not sure where the hell to start.

You have to admit that the "Helena" video is awesome, though. nod

Strangely enough, My Chemical Romance is a band that I should absolutely abhor, but I kind of like because of said video. boxed

"Ocean Blue" is fucking awesome, but I actually prefer "Paper Dolls" from the Light Years sessions. My favorite B-side of hers is probably "Baby".

Y Kant Tori Read it is. sigh

That is a good video. nod

I just wish the music behind it was the Sisters Of Mercy's "Temple Of Love" or something. neutral
