CONCERTS during the week Okay, I'm PISSED I'm missing two acts I REALLY wanna see live b/c they're playing during the week. Normally this isn't an issue b/c I usually make my own schedule BUT I'm on a gig that can't be tinkered with right now (nights) & it's making me sick that I'm missing:
India Arie @ the Fillmore (TWO DATES!! a Thursday & a Friday!!) in October AND The Brand New Heavies @ Mezzanine (small club) in November WTF?? This was such a good show summer for me (even forgiving the fact that P hasn't come near SF for a while ) but damn, these would have topped my shit OFF! I've wanted to see India forever & now that the Heavies are back together with N'dea I really wanna check them out. But I can't be asking for nights off to go to concerts WAAAAA...

Funny; I was bemoaning a recent rash of midweek concerts in Sept and October. In my case, I have to to run home and get a 3 hr nap before clocking in. Luckily, they're less than an hour away.
Then when I signed my son up for Little League there was the possibility of evening games midweek and I'd really come off as a deadbeat dad cutting out on his games. As it is, the games are scheduled early Sat evenings and I can get to all the gigs without sacrificing father-son time. I just hope no PFunk or LC tour pop up before Thanksgiving. test

I hate it when concerts come on weeknights because I like to drink and get fucked up and then I would have to go to work the next morning hungover.
Promoters for musical acts on tour may decide, at the last minute, to add a city in their path and have to get whatever date is available. Everybody wants weekend dates and they will book them way in advance (sometimes a year in advance). If an opera has booked the venue, they may have the building tied up for as long as two weeks for load-ins tech. rehearsals, and dress rehearsals. Andy is a four letter word.

Concerts on week nights suck and I did something I've never done before--I skipped going to a Brand New Heavies concert because I was just too tired and didn't feel like traveling, standing up all night, struggling to get home at near-midnight, go to bed for a few hours and go to work the next day.
I still can't believe I did that. And I do regret it. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

That makes sense... and normally I can make it work but DAMN these two shows I'm missing are killing me... At least Martin Luther opened for John Legend tonight, both were fucking EXCELLENT!!

I had tickets to see Steeley Dan for a couple of months, then had to go to Colombia at the ~almost~ last minute for my job....yeah, it sucks when that happens....

I saw John Legend when he opened for Alicia Keys on her last tour. He was good, but I love the hell outta Martin Luther! I wish he'd tour with Mint Condition. When I have a good show on a weeknight I just take the next day off if the show ends late, (lucky me). I always have to do that for Prince shows. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

See I don't even care about the next day @ work, it's just that I work until super late & will literally miss the show So now add Martin Luther's date @ Maxwell's onto shit I gotta miss 'cause I gotta work

;lol: I missed the last ever NYC Sleater-Kinney show in August (they broke up) because tix sold out too quickly. My friend has connections to the venue and could have gotten me in, but didn't because he works nights. Afterward I read reports how that show was one of the best ones ever by the band.

The one time I called him on it, he gave me a big fat negatory. That mofo is just a big tease.
