So let me see if I get this right -

Justin used the Neptunes to imitate MJ on his last cd...
He used Timbaland to imitate P on his current cd...
So I guess his next cd he'll do Marvin Gaye?

Like so many have said who is this guy as an artist?

I listened to all the samples and I have no idea what people are so excited about. If it's a Prince homage, it's very obivious and frankly, boring. Influenced by Prince, cool. Copying him...Not so much! It wasn't bad but I'm not crazy about it like everyone else here. I already bought the Beyonce album and got bored with it, so I'm not going after this one (which BTW, I couldn't find a copy of when I went to the store...maybe it will be a huge seller).

As for the original topic, I can't imagine Prince doing a song like this and if he did, I would be bored as hell.

Okay, how in the HELL does SexyBack sound ANYTHING like Prince? That's just fucking crazy. SexyBack sounds more like a house track and Prince does not do house. Hell, its not really even that. Get off it. Everything sounds like Prince to some of you. he does have TWO, maybe THREE tracks that sound Prince-influenced. Dude is borrowing a thing or two here and there from Prince and its mostly vocal techniques. Its getting slammed on because its weak. This album is weak. Its well produced but its weak. Like it? Fine. I don't. It has no substance whatsoever and Justin trying to sing songs about the working man (losing my way) just makes me want to throw up. (Yes I know the song is about drugs but dude needs to stick to writing about something he knows...like Cameron Diaz). How about a song called "Di Azz"? Now that would make sense coming from Justin. There are real artists out there writing songs to cover real issues and doing a much better job at it. Dude is about as homogenized as you can get.

"LOVESTONED/I THINK THAT SHE KNOWS" is the only reason to purchase this CD. Just brilliant. Can't stop listening to it. Seems so effortless. One of the best pop gems to come along in ages. And it's mostly a human beatbox!

Bottom line: this is a great pop cd. A fantastic effort. I think it's just what pop music needed... and yes, he's been in the business for most his life (Mickey Mouse Show, N'Sync, etc...) he should be considered an artist.

I knew he'd take off from N'Sync from the beginning... he has that spark. His choice in producers, songs, etc. And his delivery of his material, the polish, the sound the production indeed makes him an artist.

He's here to stay...Get over it people.

I said this in a previous thread I did, but I'll say it again. I don't like this new Timberlake album as much as the last one.

The whole thing is a nice dance/pop record, but it feels contrived and forced compared to "Justified". Justin is just trying to hard to be the tortured sex panther and he just comes off as a poser. Justin's white breadness really stands out when he tries on Prince's old clothes. The album is too polished and too slick--way more so than the last.

Again, it's a good pop album, but this album should have been his "thriller" and it just isn't. It's a disappointment compared to the last album.

Hey , no prob with that .
I was hip 2 hearing his bass-poppin' collabo with Snoop & Charlie Wilson on that Signs-joint ,
hence i've considered with my former band to cover that jam for a while .

What annoys me everytime though are those mindnumbing comparisons like :
" Too bad for Princey not carrying the whatthefuckever torch anymore , What if P released Sexyblack ... What if JT released Backsweat ... " ... get a fucking towel or put on some crystal ball ... " if , if , if " ... well , it didn't happen ...
Go freak yo a$$ on Janet's "If" while reading your idol's own words :

I'll explain it to you.

On his new album, Justin is a poser.

Personally, I was surprised to find dug his last album, Justified. It was a good pop record and Justin really worked that boy next door/w soul thing well and was charming. Even, when he was trying to be funky he seemed to do it in a tongue and cheek type of fashion. Justified was a nice natural step away from N'Sync and seemed authentic. It was Justin's Off the Wall.

Now, FutureSex/Lovesounds is a different story. Justin is trying way too hard to be a funky sex god. Almost every damn song is this cliche--Justin sees a fine woman in the club, and he's going to take her away and show her a sexiness that she's never seen. The music is decent, but it is trying too hard to be dirty synth funk, when really it's just over produced. You can tell these songs were combed over to perfection. Justin is Mr. Whitebread and when he tries to be sexy it's like when MJ tries to be sexy--it's awkward and stilted. It is a case of bad acting.

The songs on the new album are shallow, the lyrics tired and repetetive, and only 15 yr old girls would find Justin to be sexually adventurous/mysterious. On his new album, Justin is a poser. We know he is still the boy who cried on Punk'd.

"I think it's just what pop music needed"...The pop world needs another derivative, tuneless, trendy pop CD from a lame wannabee with no soul? confuse

seriously, the pop world is already littered with crap like this.I fail to see where Justin made some big, groundbreaking album that's never been done before. All he's doing is stealing ideas from Michael and Prince, and hiring "trendy" hip-hop/R&B producers to give him some street credibility.I hate to say this, but it appears that some of you are being taken in by the "hype machine" boxed

I can't speak for PCharm but in my opinion Pharrell and Timbaland have been trying to copy P and MJ's sound almost since coming on the music scene. Has it been every track they produce? No. But it's fairly obvious that when some new artist wants to go try to do retro P or MJ that's who they call.

Obviously, nobody is above being talked about negatively. Even Prince, for whom this site is dedicated, gets more than his fair share of shit talk from members here. However, whenever the likes of Christina, Beyonce etc... and even Prince, cut something new, there's always gonna be people whose sole purpose for existing requires the blasting of other artists.

I'm not saying this album is going to move mountains, but I think it should be considered as something more than fluff. I've been listening to it for a few days now, and find myself jammin' to it. It's funky, it's sensual, it's pop. I also bought Lionel Richie's new cd and it's pretty fresh, too. There's a few songs on that one that make me think... hmmm, that just didn't work. One song, "Sweet Vacation"... disbelief

Overall, I don't really know what people expect anymore. Music today is what it is.. polished beyond belief. Too slick... notice that it's the rough cut low budget acts that are breaking new ground lately? Arctic Monkey, Under the Influence of Giants, Gnarls Barkley, etc...
