how the fuck can a song be #1 R&B and OUT of the pop top 40--is there that much of a gap in audience impressions?

I really want "So Excited" to go Top 10 on pop charts. Hope so.

The last I saw it was #6 R&B in Billboard. I haven't seen the new charts yet.

It is good that janet simply has a top ten R&B hit. She does
not have to cater to the pop charts. If they want janet, let them
come to janet. All janet need is a good R&B album that all R&B fans
can enjoy. She has had her share of pop success with number one hits, etc.
It is unfair to ask artists like janet to try to live up to past success
especially given the sad state of music today.

Have faith in the UK then, she's midweek #164 on downloads alone lol It gets released properly next week, but most future Top 10s enter the VERY least at #30 on downloads.

I just checked on billboard.com and "Call On Me" is indeed #1 R&B next week. This is a surprise to me since it dropped 6-7 the week before. The rest of the U.S. R&B top 10 since you were dying to know: razz

1. Janet & Nelly - Call On Me

2. Chingy Featuring Tyrese - Pullin' Me Back

3. Ne-Yo - Sexy Love

4. Young Dro Featuring T.I. - Shoulder Lean

5. Yung Joc Featuring Brandy 'Ms. B.' Hambrick - I Know You See It

6. Lyfe Jennings - S.E.X.

7. Beyonce Featuring Jay-Z - Deja Vu

8. Ludacris Featuring Pharrell - Money Maker

9. Sean Paul Featuring Keyshia Cole - (When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me

10. Chris Brown - Say Goodbye

"Call On Me" shoots back up to #37 (from #52) on the Hot 100 next week. Anyone know what's the reason for the sudden turnaround?

I like Luda's new one.

Lyfe needs to shut up during his songs....

Call on me has grown on me....I actually sing the damn song everytime I hear it and I've actually always sort of liked Deja Vu. I hate Ring the Alarm...

You stole my post....damnmmmmm.....R&B really is in a sad state these past years. Ne-Yo is the only decent thing I see on the charts. I love Janet, not that song though.

disbelief why does nearly every song have to be a collaboration with another artist? What...nobody can get a hit record by themselves anymore??

R&B is in such a sorry state right now.The only halfway decent song on that chart is Beyonce's "Deja Vu".At least it's fast and catchy.

Around seven years ago I noticed this disturbing trend start up.
An "atrist" would release a 15 song album and every song featured at least two other "artists". Especially in the hip hop genre. Now If one sings or raps a single verse in 15 songs(the equivilant of 5 songs), how can one call that ones album?

It's a fucking collaboration. These modern-day motherfuckers are lazy.

They haven't only been skimpin' on the music with their weak "beats" but on lyrics as well. We all know the content has gone to shit but now the even the lyrics themselves have declined.

Crazy.

Right now I'm listening to some Curtis Mayfield(Superfly soundtrack), and I'm telling you, today's R&B "artists" should be ashamed of themselves. How did it get this bad? I know I probably sound like an out-of-touch old man, but it's the truth.

Unfortunately somebody's buying this sh!t.

It's NOT the artists, it's the CONSUMERS that r causing this.

Curtis Mayfield? Shiiiiit..... I've got only one album of his "Give It Up" but it will do. "One Love/People Get Ready", da bomb.

I think it's cool to be an out of touch old man where music is concerned. I'm 35, still young I think, but I agree with you. Let the MUSIC play.
