Prince it getting his Ass wooped by Outkast and Timbaland

These guys are bringing the funk and originality, and yes it's Prince inspired, but compared to 3121, Prince is getting his rump shaked!

i disagree.. outkast's new album is a mess, imho. some cool sounds and ideas, but not enough good songs to make them work.

i liked the movie, though - i thought it was fun

i'm not getting into the new outkast album. there are bits from every song i like, but it all seems like such a big messy pile of stuff to me. there's usually at least ONE song on every outkast record that runs me over like a freight train, but not so on idlewild. i think the album is giving me ADD.

Yeah....it is a tad bit too long. I've only listened to it once.....so far "Mighty O" is my favorite. It sounds like Outkast when they first came out.

I've liked Outkast since '96; however, this is their worst material they've ever released. And oh yes, 3121 is better.

I don't really agree
Cause Timbaland's beats are great, but kinda homogeneous and
I'm not really digging this new Outkast album confused
If you will, so will I

Brother, just because you hit a home run in the Little League World Series doesn't mean you can hit off of Roger Clemens.

Is that a fair comparison? Prince has a 30 legacy of music and your comparing this to 3121?

Alright, to each his own. wink

Give the Outkast new record time and listen to it in it's entirety without skippin any songs. You'll start to love it.

in my opinion, idlewild is better than 3121. lol (i hate when people state opinion as fact but in this case its just true.) even if you don't like the cd, creatively, musically, lyrically...it's just better work than 3121. i think 3121 is a fun record but its not "interesting" or genre bending. idlewild has (successfully, in my opinion...but that's nonetheless irrelevant) managed to combine funk, swing, and hip hop into its own thing. 3121 is not that complex.

i suppose it can be argued that greater complexity doesn't make for a better product (for instance, some people prefer merlot and its simple character over the complex character of a bourgogne) but i think to deny the craftsmanship and talent that goes into the complex product simply based on personal taste is...silly.

there are a few tracks i could do without, namely the greatest show on earth and in your dreams, but i didn't think 3121 was a perfect cd either. in the end its two different beasts entirely and both have their flaws but...find my anything on 3121 that matches the lyrical prowess of hollywood divorce or mighty o (or even train).

I don't know or care about Outkast or Timbaland, but I don't find 3121 very listenable and it is more adult-contemporary soul than anything close to funk.

I have Outkast's 'Idlewild'.

To my ears it seems highly influenced and dare I say, deriative of George Clinton, Prince's 'Parade' and mainstream blues.

I failed to hear an original note on the entire album. It has all been done before.

Last time I heard Timbaland he still hadn't learnt how to bring up a new beat program on his home computer ... .

Idlewild is a classic. I can't believe anyone who follows them can't get into it. Sure it is different, and lacks radio friendly hits like "Hey Ya" but so what! That is what is so great about it. It takes hip-hop to another level, which I guess some people are not ready to digest. 3121 is just another good Prince record. Nothing new there.

with.

Outkast and Timbaland can bring the grooves I agree. But Prince is a legend. In 20 years who do you think people will remember?

Remember.....Prince...there is no substitute. Prince is the real deal. Prince is sugar.....and the rest are just Splenda. They can try and try but they will only be an artificial substitute. That's why my coffee has sugar NOT Splenda.

true that...but as far as being excited by what the artist will put out next....i think Outkast and Timbaland rank way higher than Prince....but let's see what they can do when they are almost 50!!
