Will you go see Janet's show in 2007? Can't wait...

Janet Jackson planning for 2007 tour

Fri Sep 1, 2006 5:51pm ET
By Ray Waddell

NASHVILLE (Billboard) - Although she has only a handful of national treks under her belt, Janet Jackson is one of the most successful female touring artists of all time.

Numbers back it up. Between 1993 and 2002 (when she last toured), Jackson grossed $94 million and sold nearly 2 million tickets to just 161 shows reported to Billboard Boxscore.

So as Jackson prepares for the September 26 release of her new Virgin Records album "20 Y.O.," marking the 20th anniversary of her landmark "Control" record, fans can look forward to her return to the road around March 2007.

"My three choreographers and I are working on ideas now for a world tour," Jackson says. "It's always a visual thing for me as we start planning; I can see it on the stage. I don't want to share those ideas yet, because nothing is etched in stone. But we'll begin rehearsing at the end of the year."

Jackson's concert fan base is primarily a "white, suburban audience," according to Brad Wavra, touring VP at concert promoter Live Nation, which handled her 1998-99 Velvet Rope tour and 2001-2002 All for You tour.

Still, he says, the audience crosses racial lines.

"Everything we ever did with her was strategically planned to be promoted on both sides of the equation, pop and urban."

According to Wavra, Jackson "always understood that the African-American part of her life and her audience was an important part, and she made sure her songs, her live show and her ticket prices appealed to both segments."

Wavra thinks the upcoming Jackson tour will be "wildly successful," despite negative publicity surrounding the Super Bowl flap of 2004, when she revealed her breast during a performance with Justin Timberlake.

"I think that Janet got a bum rap," he says. "She's the antithesis of that person that was created in the media. If it hadn't been an election year I doubt it would have gotten played like it did."

Even if 20 Y O sucks, I still want to see Janet live. That will be a goal of mine in 2007.

in a way i was too. I was surprised how bored I was because it seemed like the same song and dance and light show. but I want to give her a chance in 2007. Maybe she will make some significant changes.

She will not get anymore of my money. I have seen her twice and that's enough.

To me, she has not grown as an artist since the Janet CD.

Break out the balloons, the circus get up, and the hats....redundant? Maybe but it's JANET and YES....it's always a fun time...

maybe her new record will sound better on tour!

Yeah... One of my goals was to see her perform live, too, because I've never had the opportunity before.

I'm still enthusiastic about it even though not as much I once was. If it's the same thing I've seen on DVD, then I might not. But if it's a different concept and staging... I'm sure I'll go.

That's once thing I have to give Madonna even though I'm not a huge fan of hers. She and her team sure come-up with unique and creative concepts for her tours-- not that Janet doesn't perform the hell out of what she does. It's just that Janet's tours have been more recycled. But she's still entertaining though.

I was pretty bombed during that show too! When the whole 'Escapade'/circus thing started...I cracked up out loud! I could not believe she reused that whole act for the THIRD TIME! Otherwise...I had a great time...AFY had some cool tunes and that's the last J album I truly enjoyed.

That fucking "whymsical medley"...it's like a shroom fest at Disneyland set to "Rhythm Nation" singles. SUCKS! Even the hardest core of Janet fans agree that shit has to go...she better not do that shit again this time...I want all NEW! No guy from the audience molested onstage, no same ol' Rhythm Nation routine before the encores, no "Control" medleys...fuck medleys, pick full songs like Madonna and leave some out! PLEASE! Keep Nasty, Miss You Much, Anytime Anyplace...get rid of Escapade and Again!

Agree with you totally...She needs to change it up...but unfortch she is a Jackson and they have a hard time stepping out of their comfort zone. Never saw Jacko live but I get the feeling all of his tours were pretty similar to each other.

Agree! Would love to see her put a tight live band together to jam on full-length songs...

And yes, we all know her voice isn't awesome... but I understand I'm paying for a dance show, not Charlotte Church... lighten up.

i totally understand, but have creativity. Aside from the reuse of the Cherography for Don't Tell Me on the Drowned World Tour and ReInvention, she who should not be named in a Jackson Thread has created entirly new shows without medley's and using the same routine.

Jamie King had replaced Chris during the filming of Human Nature.

I think the fall out had more to do with Chris feeling hurt by his replacement, than Guy. He had survived longer in her camp than any other person aside from Debi Mazar, who has no real role with Mo anymore aside from being a friend. He should have been aware that she'd replace him if she found someone she liked better.

Umm that's her fucking BROTHER. Flesh and blood. What happened to "Keep it Together?"

Check out the Drudge Report. They have a link to clips of Rupert Everett's new book that totally dishes on M. And you know HE knows what's up. Anyway he said that new years eve 1999/2000 when Madonna was there with Guy Ritchie (and dissed J.Lo with Gwyn's help) that it was "the beginning of the end" of Madonna and her little brother" because of Guy and the fact that he's uncomfortable around "queens."

I love Madonna the artist, but the more I learn about Madonna the PERSON, the more I don't like the bitch. Janet seems way nicer.

Uh oh...this is already a Madge thread on page 1. woops
