Can Michael still bring it? Can Michael Jackson still deliver like the mutha he was back in the late 70s/early 80s?
I know this question was asked in 86/87, then again in 1990, and again after the 1993 allegation, and then again in 1999/2000. But I think now more than ever, Michael Jackson has the oppurtunity to go Thriller style and bl0w everybody away! I was looking over Invincible, and the newbies on The Ultimate Collection. There is Thriller-status (or potentially Thriller-status) material that Michael has recorded in the last 5 years. You Rock My World, Break of Dawn, Butterflies, The Way You Love Me and Beautiful Girl are just as good, or could be just as good with more work, as the songs on Thriller. Also, he can still deliver a great stage show IMO. The Apollo concert was great, MSG was allright (even though Michael didn't do much), and the MJ & Friends (even though it was a while ago, 7 years) was amazing. Plus, according to his publicist he was dancing from 4am until court time during the trial. He even hurt himself from dancing too much. He's got a shit load more to give performance/stage-wise. His latest songs seem to be heading in the right direction, and if he picks up were he left off with songs like Butterflies, he's gonna make some great music for his next album. He's got it in the bag, now he just has to make the right decision with regards to who produces his next album, how he'll promote etc. I think Michael Jackson will come back Thriller style. But that's just my opinion, what's yours?

Why? Because Prince didn't come back big?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
no, just because MJ is even more fucked up than Prince.....
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
that's why he has a chance of making a come back

No, because MJ hasn't got it anymore. It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

none of the 80s superstars sell like they used to. plus, i think,
michael has fucked up is career and image so badly by this point that it will be a miracle if he has a huge comeback. it's simply not going to happen. it migh have been different if he'd been able to play in smaller venues, like prince with more intimate material and a small band but that's not his style. with him it's global domination or not a single thing at all. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I'm not talking so much of a commercial or sales come back. Because watever he releases will sell well. I'm just wondering if he can have a musical and creative come back. By Thriller style, I meant really, really good.

Yeah, of course he can.
What's funny is that only two of his last ten singles have failed to make number one somewhere in the world. But because he's not the success he once was in the US, apparently his career is finished.

Why do people keep writing off these huge stars, can Michael make a huge comeback? ofcourse 'every' artist is one good song away from comeback.
Thats all he needs good songs, the rest really is irrelevant to the general public, regardless of what the media will have you believe. It may be the case for actors ect, but for musician if he can deliver a great song, thats all they need to comeback from any draught.

I'm sorry to say this, guys, but I really think Michael is over an an artist
I just can't see him making any more comebacks.Too much damage has been done.He still has a sizable fanbase who will buy anything he releases, but as far as the mainstream goes,he's finished.Such a shame, really. If he had handled his career (and his life) better, things might have been different. He'd be where Madonna and Prince currently are....still doing soldout concerts, getting alot of respect, still in the game.

There will ALWAYS be a good number of the public who will remain wary of Michael. The damage is done. However, there are still a number of people who think that he was done over and are more suspicious of the motivations of those who moved against him. THAT is the point when it comes to getting his career back on track. Don't write him off yet, the man is a great talent and I believe that talent may save him yet. Whether you like it or not, a lot of people still care.

He might be fine in Europe but I don't know how many comebacks Americans will tolerate especially from someone who seems so out of touch. Creatively, I don't know. I don't think Michael has had the touch or really been interested in awhile. He definitely needs a push from great producers. He just doesn't strike me as bursting at the seams with new music and ideas. It's so expected of him it's hard to imagine that it's not there anymore, or if it is, it's rusty as hell. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Start listening to what is out there in the streets. I have heard some unreleased tracks from various albums, and they were quite good. The featured people like, LL Cool J, Jah Rule, and Lenny Kravitz and Ashanti. Now I am not saying that the people that I mentioned above are all that great, but they fresh blood will always bring something new to the table....and Michael needs to be challenged. 3. This leads me to my final point. Michael, stop listening to people who think they know what sells and what your original fans, us black folks want to hear. When Michael was putting together the following albums, History, Dangerous, and Invincible, not only did he work with the people that I mentioned about, but he also turned down a number of songs that were written by people like, the Neptunes, Brian McKinght, Babyface, and Robin Thicke. The one by Neptunes were reworked, just a bit and placed on Justin Timberlake's Debut....A great example is that song, "Senorita"...Michael rejected this song for the "Invicible" CD and they changed a few things for Justin. If Michael wants to "come back into the fold" so to speak, these are the things that might get his foot back in the door. Like I Love You and Rock Your Body definately were written for Michael, but I don't know about the rest of the Justified songs. Also, the Robin Thicke song was "Fall Again" and Michael did record it and it was released on The Ultimate Collection. He recorded two songs by Babyface, "You Are My Life", "On The Line". YAML was put on Invincible and OTL was used in the movie "On The Bus".

"Sernorita" was written for Michael, There was an article in Rolling Stone magazine about all of the songs that Michael has turn down or did not record that were written for him, for one reason or another. Robin and Michael had written about 7 or 8 more songs, aside from "Fall Again", but those were never used. There were more songs written by him a Face that were to be included on Dangerous. The point I am trying to make is this.....Michael can make a "comeback", as long as he puts those things behind him. He needs to concentrate on just one thing....Making music. You raise an interesting point....Would would you pick a name that would only draw attention to your plight? That would be a stupid title. It is almost as if he wants to compare himself to Christ. Not good. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"
