Alicia Keys bites.

Do we all agree that Ms. Keys is too big for her britches and is highly overrated? I think her music is standard by the numbers soul/pop. This harpie could learn a lot from Angie Stone and Badu.

...no where close to agreeing!!

If you don't like her music, say so. But to say she is "overrated" and "standard" is being biased and unfair. I personally feel she is great, and will only get better over time. But, I will not go so far as you in stating my beliefs are fact...only opinion...

She's just about my least favorite new performer in recent memory.
She makes me sick. Can't stand her.
I would love to shave her head.

I happen to like the girl. I love her style and her voice. If she wasn't over-rated, I would be overrating her! I think she needs a little more time probably and more experience as someone mentioned in another thread, but I think she got what it takes to change things into a more postive direction for those in the hip-hop world.

I think her first album was going to bring much more than what it had since 'Fallin' got me hooked, but I wasn't too impressed with it. But as she keeps going, I think she will get better. She does have raw talent, unlike the many other 'artists' among her, so that's why I take to her so lovely!

I think Alicia has talent and might actually do great things in the future. However,I think it's absurd to reward her with 5 Grammys for a mediocre debut album that only yielded one real hit,the annoying "Falling".There is nothing unique or groundbreaking about her music.Like I said, she MAY do great things in the future, but as of right now,I'm not too impressed.

Yeah she's waaayyy OVERATED! She is pretty n nowdayz that is much more important than whether or not u have any real talent. I guess she's okay, but there r so many other artist who deserve props that don't get the recognition that they deserve. I do like her version of hcudcma,it's actually pretty good.
She stole my medallion n she called me a BITCH!!!

Is she overhyped? Yes

Did she deserve 5 grammies? I doubt that

The fact remains she has only released ONE album containing some songs she wrote when she was 15. Why not give her the chance to get a few albums under her belt before we say she is overrated, sucks, bites, blows, etc.

It seems that, nowadays, the media and the music industry hype these new artists up, acting as if they're just the most unique, most original artists the world has ever seen. Why not give their careers time to develop first before we reward them and put them on a pedestal? Prince didn't start winning awards and recogniton until his fifth or sixth album. That's the way it should be for ALL artists!

The reason for this is because the media is looking for the next BIG THING. And since the music industry is overloaded with medicore talent, it doesn't take much for the media to jump on anything they deem as significant and big. Sort of like when Michael Jordan retired, the sports media quickly started looking for basketball players to deem as "Michael Jordan Jr". Vince Carter (from the Toronto Raptors) was one of those players. When they asked him about this he said..."hey I'm more concern with being Vince Carter, than like Mike...don't hit me with that label".

In closing,I'd like to say that time will be the revealer of how good she is. If she's good, time will reflect this, if not, time will reflect this also. The same can be said about D'angelo, Lauryn Hill, Maxwell and Erykah Badu as well.

Yes, to me keyes is OVERRATED for the extent of her talent right now. however she may have what it takes to get better as she matures? i dont care at all 4 what she does to "HCUDCMA". prince far EXCEEDS her on this! maybe he let her have it to show ppl HE REALLY DOES THE BEST JOB on that great song? NO ONE will b able to outdo him on HIS covers! i think he KNOWS this! or he should...

There's no question that Alicia Keys is talented.

There's also no question that she was built to sell. If judged by that intention, she's accomplished her goal.

Some artists need time to grow. I doubt seriously if she's allowed that growth under the wing of Clive Davis 'hitmakerextraordinaire'. Anybody remember that Stevie Wonder, although clearly talented, wasn't much more than fluff under the guidance of Berry Gordy.

However, when allowed to follow his muse without the intrusion of music charts or sales expectations, he eventually delivered some of the most beautiful music the 70's saw.

Patience, I think, is the word here.

Alicia definitely has talent- singing & piano-
I see her though as a sort of "well-hyped product"..

her album is.. almost good, but india.arie's is much better

(WHY does every one compare these 2 so often, anyway???)

It will be interesting to see how Alicia's music develops, to see if/how she evolves as a musician..
if she maintains her "hyped product status" or she "pushes the musical envelope"..

with all the talent she has, I'm expecting a lot more from her on her next album..

time will tell, won't it?
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

That's my whole point.Alicia is talented but instead of allowing her to blossom and *GROW* as an artist, they're already rewarding her with multiple Grammys, and acting if she is the most talented creature on the earth. This may create a certain kinda "career backlash",not to mention alot of hype that she may not be able to live up to.As I mentioned above,Prince didn't start receiving that kinda recognition until his fifth or sixth album, thus he was allowed the opportunity to GROW as an artist. But,I guess nowadays the media is so desperate to find "the next big thing" that they just can't wait.

No, we don't all agree that Miss Keys bites...I happen to like her. I caught her first 2 Bay Area concerts and enjoyed them both. The 1st concert (at the Orpheum in SF) was better than the 2nd show (Oakland Paramount). Alicia seemed more loose and raw at the first show.

I do like Alicia Keys and in my opinion she's very talented.omfg However, I felt she won too many awards for one song that carried the album commercially. She and India Arie were up for just as many Grammy awards...sad and I think India Arie should've recieved all of them. Or at least more than Alicia Keys.shrug
