Seal: Thread

I have enjoyed all 3 albums by Seal, he's soulful, poetic, and his music is very strong IMHO. Does anyone know if there are any live cd imports? I saw him in concert at the Greek in Los Angeles and it was incredible, he did alot of his songs acoustically and would sing them differently then on his albums. I even heard that Wendy & Lisa have worked with him???

Seal hasn't released any live CD's
(though there were some bootlegs circulating)
I believe he did release a live video though.

He did release an acoustic ep in the UK in '92
which had the following tracks:
Violet, Whirlpool, Wild, Show Me.
He sometimes put acoustic versions of songs
on his b-sides as well.

And yes, Wendy & Lisa worked heavily with Seal
on all 3 albums. They're listed as musicians
in the liner notes. They were particularly
involved with his second album, where they
actually co-wrote some of the songs with him.
They were also part of Seal's touring band at
that time as well. They even signed to ZTT
records around that period too, and they also
recorded a Wendy & Lisa album for ZTT which
was never released (because ZTT folded). Their
unreleased album is available on a bootleg
called Friendly Fire.

Brother915

I thought "Kiss From The Rose" was one of the best singles, if not, the best single of 1995. He deserved to win the 1995 record of the year grammy for that one. He's a good singer. That album was pretty good, now that I think about it.

He had a cool MTV Unplugged Album i remember.I dig His work&agree with Brother915 on "Kiss from the Rose".that was a knockout song.the Cat has feeling in his work.my only knock is that He got trapped into showcasing only one side of Himself as a Artist.that Cat could be scary if Trevor Horn allowed more risks in His Music?

I like his music, too. 'Kiss from a Rose' is one of all time fav songs. Human Being wasn't as good as Seal II and Seal I, IMO.
I bought his video tape back in 95 or 96. It has some of his videos and then some songs he performs on guitar without an audience, but live nonetheless.

I definitely enjoyed the vhs tape, although i would've liked some footage from the Unplugged show someone wrote about.

For the record: Wendy and Lisa did not participate on Human Being. There is a sample from one of their film scores used for "Excerpt From" and that was it...I recall reading an article during the time Human Being was released and Seal almost seemed annoyed that he was always asked about the dynamic duo...But, this was about the time that Seal was having his own Trevor Horn issues...Since then, Seal cut off ties with Trevor..If this holds, who knows...

and as far as Friendly Fire...This was not released because Wendy and Lisa felt the music was subpar. After Girlbros became a critical hit Trevor announced that ZTT would release Friendly Fire...Wendy, Lisa and Trevor returned to the studio to finish up some of the work, but the annimosity was still there and the three agreed to drop the whole deal and forget about it. Wendy went on record as sayin Trevor is soo obsessed that he records and re-records and redubbs and overdubbs a song so much that it kills the passion of the tune...

after hearing Friendly Fire (which btw, was never intended to be the title..id love to find out where that came from) I must agree...Some wonderfully written songs...but, they come off a bit stiff...Recently, Wendy ran into a fan who gushed over hearing their new work..Wendy had *no* clue that the music had reached the public...The fan let her have a copy and Wendy got all happy and told her she was taking it home to Lisa so they can here what is sounds like...(I love that story...its soo cute.)

back to Seal..he does have a new album ready for release...It keeps being pushed back from its initial release of early last year to a possible winter release this year...but, with record label exec changes, something tells me Seal is no longer a priority..some could blame Trevor, others the change in public attention...whatever the case, Seal is being missed.

He's on new single of dance act Jakata (A la Admaski) and is talking at the Urban Music Seminar in London.

Obviously making moves back into the mix so new solo material soon no doubt...

Trevor Horn was the mastermind behind all things ZTT. Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Art of Noise, Propaganda, Anne Pigalle, etc. He was also the bassist for The Buggles ('Video Killed The Radio Star') and if you ever get a chance to check out Grace Jones' 'Slave To The Rhythm', please do. Your ears will thank you.

He is a wonderful producer, although word has it an overbearing one. That appears to be the breaking point with he and Seal. Sorry to hear it because I think they made beautiful music together.

The upcoming Seal album in question is called 'Togetherland' and if you click here you can listen to snippets of each track.

Just listened to those samples...hoping Trevor makes it back real soon.
Nothing really different from other Seal albums, but i need to hear more.
It's artists like Seal who i think could use a prince-penned track.

yeah.. i agree. somethings seems lost..but, seal's songs tend to build up to brilliance so the snippets might not be telling the whole picture..hopefully the album will be great. this i give them, they dont sound nearly as cluttered as the tunes on Human Being. Great songs ruined by the prince-like throw in everything but the kitchen sink approach.

more seal/wendy & lisa related stuff..Seal dated Susannah for a bit. And Wendy & Sus toured (sporting matching blond dos). During a LA radio show Seal was late and Susannah ended up singing Killer to kill time while they waited...there is a cd-like quality mp-3 circulating and you can hear Seal pitch in backing vocals at the end of the tune...

now i wonder, is the sus/seal breakup the reason that W&L had little to do with Human and why they no longer circle the same circles?

and what is up with sus and her rockstar dating habits? hopefully her marriage to Doyle will last forever and W&L wont have another rocker to *not* appear on cd with...

I really dig Seal, he has or had the same managers that Prince fired, he does work with Wendy and Lisa,
What amazes me is how Hollywood makes a hit, Kiss from a Rose became a hit when it was used on the Batman movie, the album had been out for over a year and didn't do much of anything, then Batman came out, and seal becomes the man. Why didn't the record sale prior to the batman release? Because the big screen has away of twisting people's arms. I bought the album a year before the movie came out. Record sales is not about talent, its about exposure. You can tell anybody that the music is this and that, and the people will buy what you tell them. (milli vanilli) But seal is talented,
How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

yes he does..but they only contributed what i mentioned before..this from seal..AND wendy and lisa...

Meshell did the same credit for Bitter when Wendy only appeared on *one* song...while Lisa was all over the thing...
