My CD burner is a stereo component. It's plugged into one of the auxilary jacks in the back of the stereo, just like a tape deck. You record the same way you make a cassette tape, except you manually insert track numbers and finalize when you finish. I make CDs from my two turntables (with pitch) and two CD players (with pitch), which are all plugged into a mixer with a cross-fader. Sometimes I make a continous mix. I can't tell you how many blank CDs I have thrown away because I make a mistake when recording. I am a true perfectionist. I need to start recording a tape until I get it perfect and then burn it onto CD. . . [Edited 9/5/06 17:35pm] Andy is a four letter word.

Yeah this is a touchy subject with some pepole, quite frankly i dont really care too much, but if your one of those people whos whole cd collection is all burnt cds, you do deserve a good punch in the face!
Music is getting cheaper nowdays nyway.....well i spose it does depend on where you go, but a lot of music stores have a lot of good music very cheap. And yeah im down with getting a few songs from said artist to c if u like their stuff and decide on gettin more from them, as i do this from time to time, not very often....as i have lots of cds and i ususally just buy a cd of a band if ive heard good things, im really open with my music. There are people who do put their music on websites like My Space....which is another evil thing in the makings! to get exposure, and sure thats all good one of my MC friends does that, but ive heard some very dodgy things with myspace and copywriting of peoples material on there recenty. And there are even some bands who are Pro bootlegs, as they want people 2 hear what they r like live, which im down with as well....but then the money just goes 2 the dodge person who did the boot hehe...but ususally people download boots nowdays, or just trade them, so that aint as bad. There are loads of albums which only had a very limited release on CD in the early 80s.
What if you had a vinyl copy of an album which had been out of print for years and is now damaged, but somebody was selling a CDR of the CD? You didn't buy the album on CD at the time because CD Players cost a month's wage at that time... You can't buy the CD because it's no longer in print. You've already paid once for the album on vinyl, so the artist received their royalties from you at that time. Now if somebody is selling CDRs of the album on eBay and they're making it clear that you're paying for their services in transferring the album to CD, the actual blank disc and postage - are you really paying for the music which you'd already paid for? I personally have no qualms about eBay sellers offering a service like this, so long as they make it clear that they aren't original discs. If anything, it should be a wake-up call to the major record companies to negotiate with their artists both past and present and make their music available (legally) online. I'm continually surprised by which albums are no longer available. I wanted Aretha Franklin's 1986 'Aretha' album for nostalgia purposes. I had it on cassette but can't find it. It's the album with the George Michael duet and her cover of 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' on it. Well, since its release in 1986, it's never been pressed on CD again. Why??? I know the album isn't a classic, but I'd love to hear it again for sentimental reasons. MP3.com links to all the legal download services when you search by an artist's discography. The album isn't here: http://www.mp3.com/albums...loads.html My order of preference in obtaining this album would be: 01) An original factory-pressed original CD on eBay. It's scarce, so I may be looking at $20.00 at least. Does that money go to the artist? No. 02) A CDR ripped from WAVs (without any transcoding), using the original CD. I might be looking at $5.00 on eBay. Does that money go to the artist? No. 03) Assemble the album myself using a P2P service like Ares or Soulseek. The music files may have been transcoded from the original CD rip several times before I download them. Does that money go to the artist? No. Now, if I could buy this album for download as first-generation MP3s for £4.99 say, I'd do it right now. Would that money go the artist? Yes. Well, some of it - and some is better than nothing! I can't believe how stupid the record companies are being. Yes, it would be a huge initial undertaking to encode everything they hold in their vaults but other than bandwith, they'd have no other outlay. Ever. It boggles my mind.

It's kewl to make cd's for friends, family and sweeties.
You can find great stuff on I-tunes. It helps too (as a musician) to have a collection of music to learn songs from. You can write your notes/charts in Finale or pull up a "notebook" format in Microsoft Word. Just back up your files. Don't do like me and say "Oh it's kewl." Then have your hard drive erased by the guy at (Store name deleted) fixing your computer. I will bite the bullet and do the Ipod thing too.
