I guess I'm totally old school cause I can't stand the lame ass shit that's out their today. I would rather see Dylan, Marvin, Al Green, Sam Cooke, The Beatles and the Stones any old day. Most pop music and hip hop right now sucks ass!!

I think that show best represents why music sales are so damn low. It was a big night of "Who's that?" and "Who cares?". No real big surprises, just a few drunken akward moments. It was just weird and boring and even Jack Black's energy couldn't make it work.

I liked Shakira's performance but that was about it except for the Racounters rocking.

Oh no, not an award for ring tone of the year. Not funny anymore.

How I wish I was. But really, I could never think of such a cruel tease.

I think they should retire the entire channel. The only time I see an actual music video on when I'm flipping through the channels is around 3 a.m.

I had been flipping back and forth over there. What the hell was Lou Reed doing out there with the Raconteurs? The bulk of MTV's audience don't care about him or the Raconteurs....they want All American Rejects I felt like MTV added them on the bill to draw in a different fan base....didn't work. They didn't even let them play long which I thought was unfair. My brother's a big Velvet Underground fan, so I called to tell him that Lou Reed was out there and by the time he got to the t.v , they were done....gone in a flash. I liked O.K Go's performance.....they pulled off the treadmill thing just like in the video, but they weren't hooked up to any mics. I turned it after Beyonce.....I kinda wanted to see her all girl band, which they didn't even show. "Ring the Alarm" is a horrible song,imo. The whole screaming thing comes off so phony with her. It worked with Kelis's "Caught Out There" though My gamecocks are playing, so I'd much rather watch the football game right now, because I don't think anybody else I wanna see is gonna come out.

Watching the pre-show right now. Turned off the sound because Fergie performs "London Bridge". Thank God someone invented the remote control and the mute option.

I watch the VMA’s every year. I regret this increasingly with each viewing. Here are my thoughts . . .

What I liked:

1. Xtina sang quite well. Her stint was a welcomed break from the chaos.

2. Shakira was awesome—very exotic, curvy, entertaining, and fun. She would be sexy with or without clothing imo.

3. I am a bigger fan of Panic! At the Disco. Even though the vocals were shaky, they did a great number, and their costumes rocked. I’m actually glad that they won the big one. Good for them. (though I was rooting for Madonna.)

4. JT’s “shelf” bit near the end was hilarious.

5. Those treadmill guys were fun to watch.

6. I loved how Mtv used the entire hall for the visuals/backdrops. It was quite stunning. (Reminded me of a big, fat Madonna concert I once attended.)

7. Waling and flailing aside, Beyonce’s choreography was off the hook. I hope she gives mad props to Janet. It really was vintage Rhythm nation work done very well imo.

8. My Chemical Romance did a superb number during the pre-show. I loved the drumming.

Ehh . . .

1. In the interest of being cutting edge, Mtv has opted to bring their staging closer into the audience through the use of several catwalk-style curves and extensions. This sucks ass. It just adds a disjointed and unfocused quality to the production. They’ve done this for the past 3 three years. This also confuses the award winners who have to waste airtime figuring out how to get to where they need to be. I favor the old school Oscar-style approach---one big, bad ass, beautiful stage with rock and roll royalty clumped together where we can see them.
2. What the hell was J-Lo wearing? Some sort of designer skull cap I guess.
3. Imho, I prefer rap videos over live performances. Why? Well, as showcased by Ludacris at the VMA’s, he was dealt with the deep internal struggle of figuring out which side of the stage to linger most. (Luckily, we were blessed with his synchronized and choreographed arm and hand movements.)
“Should I go stage left? Oh no, I HAVE to stay in the middle!!”---All the while rapping to his funky beats. Personally, I have nothing against Luda. I actually like a lot of his songs. Overall, rap performances, even with the booty-shaking girls, leave me uninspired.
4. In the interest of being cutting edge, Mtv decided to include more backstage footage. This was overkill. I don’t need more reality tv. Again, it made the whole production more scattered and unfocused.
5. The show lacked the presence of a major established artist—like Prince, Madonna, Janet, or even Mariah for goodness sake!!! So many people were far too earnest.
6. Sloppy. This is how I would describe Mtv’s production work. Cues were either delayed or missed entirely—particularly in the pre and post shows. I know this is a massive production and all, but I think someone needs to be fired.
7. In the interest of being cutting edge, Mtv decided to allow the public to vote in all of the major categories. This is just an opinion, but I think the awards were a result of the split-vote phenomenon. Votes for the major artists were split by the majority, and acts with smaller but very aggressive fan bases won out. I don’t mean to take away from any of the winners, but how many upsets and victorious underdogs should there be in one awards show? Well, there were a heck of a lot of them. It just seemed incredibly imbalanced.
Perhaps these public votes need to be weighted along with votes from other artists, directors, choreographers, dancers, and people who actually work in the industry and are experienced in their respective fields. The likelihood that millions of little teeny boppers determined this year’s winners just gives me the creeps.
8. Lastly, whoever that guy was who pre-empted Panic! At the Disco’s speech needs to be slapped. There is nothing worse than raining on someone else’s shining, glorious moment. They need to shine, uninterrupted.

Well, that’s all folks. Overall, I was underwhelmed. I should have just read a book instead.
