are you saying you don't hear the lynn drum on the track? or are you saying you hear it but don't think it sounds like Prince? I think the pitch and flange on the "End Of Time" Linn Drum sounds give it that Prince character... it's probably chopped right out of Raspberry Beret or Beautiful Ones intros.

Listening to these two Prince influenced tracks makes my rating of JT drop even lower than before. The two songs are not only contrived and sexless, but the sound nothing more than a manufactured productions for boybands, which is all JT is a boyband singer.

Okay, the title track's rhythm track is REALLY hot. I play it REALLY loud all of the time. It is my first fave on the album.

I like LoveStoned but during that little guitar blip he shoulda just screamed, Prince! Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

OK.
I just listened 2 both songs... "Damn Girl" doesn't remotely sound like a Prince song 2 me at all. The melody is more Motown, actually like the Jackson 5. As far as "until The End of Time" goes, that's a lame Linn drum beat, and there's nothing wrong with others using the Linn sound. Everyone associates the sound with Prince, so there is no "harm" done there, so 2 speak. The song is weak... I lost interest before the 1st verse was over. I just figured out how sync my LinnDrum 2 my MPC... watch out mow. "He's a musician's musician..."

the album's a solid 8/10. I'm feelin it
JT is about to go to another leve with this release. If you think he was big before this, just wait. I feel sorry for those that aren't feelin' this because it's going to be shoved down your throats the next year and a half. Hell I might even hate it by then. To restate what I said earlier, I think the VOCAL ARRANGEMENTS on "Damn Girl" (especially on the chorus) remind me of Prince (Emancipation era). Its the rhythmic PLACEMENT of the Linn drum, not the use of the Linn drum on "Until The End Of Time" that is reminiscent of 80s Prince.

I hear U... the tuning, placement, and the effects R reminescent of Prince, but I'm just sayin' that it's a fairly weak effort. I mean... my music is original, and with it's influences, BUT when I rock MY LinnDrum, I let the Prince influence take over, and that's the only way I use my Linn. I know the feel... the placement. My Linn beats R nearly indisguishable from Prince's, and with all due respect... like a tribute, in a way. I have enough of my own flavor, but there, with the Linn, is where I emulate and reflect the influence intentionally... and partially 2 school folks. I just think their Linn beat is weak. That's really all. Peace. G. [Edited 8/29/06 19:10pm] "He's a musician's musician..."

At the risk of giving away my MJ obsession, can I say Losing My Way is one of the best songs of the album, and one of the first the guy ever released that actually has some 'legacy' power. Some of the other stuff is good, some of it surprisingly lame, but none of it is the kind of song that people will listen to in 10 years (or 5) with fond memories. "It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

Quick rundown by song:
FutureSex/LoveSound Nice intro, hot beat, good chorus, lacks a bit in 'excitement', but solid opener nontheless 7 out of 10 SexyBack We all know this one, it's funky imo, good lead single, but not much of a song 7 ouf of 10 Sexy Ladies Me like the bass and the 'restraint' on the song. Somehow this sounds groovy to me. Unlike the rest of the album 7 ouf of 10 My Love Interesting production, lame beginning, excellent second part 6 out of 10 Lovestoned Is this JT or nsync? But it's catchy, teensy, and the singing is ok. Not sure what the 'addedum' to the song is about? 5 out of 10 What goes around... Again pretty nsync, and a 'ballad', but pretty accomplished imo. Like it a lot. 7 out of 10 Damn girl I have to admit i'm torn on this one, don't immediatly connect with it, but i guess objectively it's pretty good 6 out of 10 Summer love Rather stripped down, not very memorable, but solid, except for the chorus, which is bland. Ok, yawn-inducing near the end 5 out of 10 Set the mood right interlude WTF? Is this a Janet interlude? It just sucks man 2 out of 10 Until the end of time Ok, bad interlude to a crappy song. The guy doesn't have the vocals or image for this kind of song, it's just wrong 3 out of 10 Losing my way Excellent! MJ-like midtempo 'save the word' kinda song, without the grandstanding, this is positively excellent. 9 out of 10 All over again Mmm...excellent again. His voice doesn't sound half bad, good song, schmaltzy but in a good way 7,5 out of 10 Pose This is like early 90ies prince funny-ness, but it has zero appeal to me right now. Strangely enough, could be a grower. 5 out of 10 Chop me up No way to tell this is a JT song (again, like pretty much the rest of the album), but it's pretty well executed and definately single material 7 out of 10 Conclusion: not funky enough, he should go for a 'whiter' sound at times, loose the boyband-stuff (eventho it's often the stronger material here). There is very little Justin here and lots of other people. So it's in no way shape or form a landmark album. But that doesn't mean there aren't some A-list tracks here, and that he surprised me with some of his more balad-y stuff. Whoever let "Until the end of time" on there should be fired. Why are they called boy bands instead of boy groups? Just curious. I always associated bands with self-contained collectives who actually played musical instruments. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I honestly give a lot of music a chance. My point about Damn Girl still stands, too. I know the track has a Mowtown feel but the vocals scream Prince. Robin Thicke's song "Lost Without You" is in falsetto for the most part and sounds nothing like Prince. Justin is biting. OMG! I just said Robin Thicke and Justin Timberlake in the same sentence without dissing them! What the hell is happening to me? Quick...pass me a Mint Condition CD so I can cleanse myself! I was sort of with him until his most recent comments about the superbowl. Oh NOW you admit racial/sexist politics were involved almost THREE years later?!?! Way to sell a record and do some damage control and look like a total ass, buddy. And you could never even hope to have a nutsack full of DNA that even comes close to cloning the hair on Prince's left Eyebrow so FUCK OFF I'll leave it alone babe...just be me
