JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE TALKS ABOUT NIPPLEGATE

In the new MTV News special “All Eyes on Justin Timberlake,” the former N’Sync star wouldn’t say whether or not the boob flash was intentional, or indeed a “wardrobe malfunction” as described in a statement eventually released by Jackson. But Timberlake said he laments staying silent during the media torrent surrounding ‘Nipplegate’.

“I’m part of a community that considers themselves artists. And if there was something [more] I could’ve done in her defense, then I would have,” said Timberlake. “But the other half of me thought to myself, ‘Wow, like we still haven’t found the weapons of mass destruction. And everybody cares about this.’”

Timberlake also acknowledged the sexist and racial undertones surrounding the Super Bowl incident, suggesting the media focused more on Janet Jackson than on him.

“If you consider it 50/50, I probably got 10 percent of the blame. And that says something about society,” he said. “I think that America’s harsher on women and I think that America’s unfairly harsh on ethnic people. At the time it was happening, it was so crazy to me, that I didn’t handle it the best way I could have. But, you get your bumps and bruises from it and you learn. But it was sorta unfair.” [SOURCE]

Cool if he said what? He's still not taking responsibility. "It was sorta unfair"? "I think that America's unfairly harsh on ethnic people"? Boy, please. talk to the hand I don't even know where to start.

It's a start. Not sure about the "women" "ethnic" card, though. That could work against him 'cause if he truly believed that he would only suffer 10%, it's all the more reason that he should have come to her defense.

Hopefully there's an apology track on the CD.

"But, you get your bumps and bruises from it and you learn."

You know when you'll get your bumps and bruises...when African American media outlets totally reject you (if they haven't already) and the album tanks. Janet's got a new album coming out and she gets mentioned on an interview show she should be intereviewed for (notice "All Eyes On...Justin, Beyonce, Christina..."...who's missing?). It's as if she died and is only part of MTV's past (which they don't acknowledge anymore).

I think his "card" been pulled. Teena Marie might be the only white person with one left....and she deserves it. I've been listening to her a lot lately.

Again, I wish 'artists'--the community in which he considers himself a part of--would just STFU.

Too late, too late baby, bye bye

Isn't Jermaine Dupri hosting a party for him?

That's what i meant when i posted in earlier threads about Janet and MTV.... some people dismiss it beacuse Janet is now 40.... i'm not talking about MTV not playing her video's (They barely play any video's) im talking about how the act like she doesn't exist period...

umm why is he talking so much lately about stuff? and why is he trying to so hard to be "hard" in the first place?

Yeah Timbo tell us something we don't know, yes you could have handled the situation better, but the bottom line is, You Didn't...and everybody noticed that you didn't too. You coming clean now doesn't help the situation...especially if you are just writing it off as the whole thing being "sorta unfair".... While you have this "outspoken" bug right now, it's like 3 years too late, you should have it when nipplegate was happening.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Pardon the cynical eye with which I read Timberlake's comments. But it seems to me that his people probably persuaded him to do some damage control with the people who lend him his street cred: black consumers.

Many people fussed over the stripping aspect of the stunt.

I had a problem with the way he was feeling on Jackson throughout the routine, as well. It evoked a subtext of white entitlement with black women that has its roots in slave times. (But, sometimes I look too deep into a thing.)

At any rate, Timberlake wants to have as broad a market appeal as he can. So, he owns up a little to acting like a victim in the aftermath of the Super Bowl stunt.

I don't think, either way, his main demographic of teenaged white girls will care.

anyway, he should have stepped up back then and defended janet
wether it really was a "malfunction" (lol) or intent, they are
both a part of what happened and he let her take all the heat.

i can understand if he'd shut up about it for a day or two but
by that time he should have got it into his head that he's as
much a part of that as janet and that he acted like a bitch to
let her take all the flack for it.

by all means, he should shut up about it now. too little too
late and not relevant anymore, not on his part anyway.

why is he talking about this anyway? are station not playing
his new song often enough or something?

geez.

There's no question, that's what happened. Let's see if they're just words.
If he really learned from the "bumps and bruises" and he truly believed the stuff his people wrote for him, he would put himself on the line and speak up for her now.

The apology/blame shift is somewhat clever. But now it opens him up to put the action where the index card, I mean, the words are.

Timberlake also acknowledged the sexist and racial undertones surrounding the Super Bowl incident, suggesting the media focused more on Janet Jackson than on him.

I kind of chuckled when he said that. About the whole unfairness to women and ethnic people. I am not saying that does not exist but he sounded so uncomfortable when saying that. He knows who a lot of his fan base is.
