The Rolling Stones - Miss You

The coolest thing abhout this IMO, is the fact that they're not lip syncing to the record. You can tell because it has it's rough spots but it also is different than the original but just slightly.
I love the Stones, even this slightly disco shit. Ever hear the Prince, Ron Wood and I think Sting covering this tune?

I thought of this the other day when I heard Donavan Frankenreiter's "Move By Yourself" (which also has a bit of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" in the intro). The bassline is similar for sure.
Love this song. [Edited 8/12/06 22:10pm]

Yes, it is indeed the shit. In fact, it's my favourite Stones song (yes, I know, I know, there are much better ones, blah blah blah .... I DON'T CARE!). Written by Mick Jagger for Jerry Hall in early 1977. Perfect sleaze set to a 4/4 beat. Track down the original 12" version, which is simply wonderful - eight minutes of bliss. The original unedited version, which you can find on several bootlegs of the Some Girls studio sessions, runs for over 10 minutes. "Hey whatsthamatta maaaan. We gonna come round at twelve wit' some Puerto Rican girls thasss jusss daaaayuuuunnn' to meetchoo". [Edited 8/13/06 1:37am] There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

One of my faves. Prince's "Uptown" is a direct bite from this song, musically. Even though the bassline was Andre's, which also is damn near the same line in the Stones song, after P put the guitars on, especially during the verses,...man! SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Never thought of it that way.. Gonna listen to it again Yep. Play "Miss You" and then "Uptown" back to back. You'll hear it. U know P said this is a song that he wish he wrote himself. With "Uptown", he damn near did. I tell ya something else P bit off from. Listen to when Mick is talking at the end when he says "Buy the red album". Sounds familiar? What does P have in the video "Alphabet St"? "Please don't buy the Black album". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

This song is classic. Fortunately for us us Stones fans, they have tons of great classic songs for us to enjoy.

Did you know the idea for "Miss You" came from when Billy Preston was playing bass guitar backstage. He showed Bill Wyman how to play "octaves" on the bass.
Here's Billy with The Stones going "Outta Space". http://www.youtube.com/wa...Jirg2kGvBw "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

I think both songs are among the best stuff that Prince and the Stones have done.... I just tried listening to both songs back-to-back... I can definately hear the influence now.... Funny thing though, everytime I hear that "What's up little girl?" part in Uptown it reminds me of Mick Jagger for some reason... now I know why

I remember my mother (who is not a rock fan by any means) came home with this 12 inch back in 78. She played this over and over (and I didn't have any problem with it). This song (and LP) is a great time capsule of pure decadence in the late 1970's. A lot of people said the Stones sold out with this but they gained a whole new audience w/ this song. I love the Stones from the 70's.
Great pick funkpill! | |
