You can add these to The Rev's pile...

...to get tunes like Tired of Being Alone, Livin' for You, Sha-La-La and Take Me to the River.

Next to You, Let's Stay Together and Call Me are close seconds, by my favourite is actually this album:

I've always wanted to give one of his religious recordings a try.

One of my all time fave male vocalists. I've mentioned on here several times in the past that when I was very little, Al used to call our house to speak with my dad. One time, I answered the phone and it was Al. He was very nice, asking me how old I was and typical shit that grown-ups ask u when you're little.
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

I certainly love it to bits, and it's generally held in pretty high regard among his fans and critics. The title track in particular is one of his strongest melodies IMO. It was something of a commercial failure, though, so it doesn't get mentioned as frequently as Call Me or I'm Still In Love With You.

Wasn't this album the beginning of his spiritual venture right after the grits tragedy?

This is that very album - after this record he gave up on secular music, so to speak, and began to make religious recordings only for quite some time.

I never bought that one, and I'm not sure why...Maybe the Rev part through me and I figured it was another spiritual album and he has a hell of lot of those. Did he work with Willie Mitchell on that one? His return to R&B after a number of years in "I Can't Stop" was worth the buzz from real fans, IMHO. I loved the hell out of "I Can't Stop". It was cool because it felt more like a throwback to the sixties and fifites rather than Green's old sound and heyday. Very seamless and not cheap. Probably one of my favorites from that year....Possibly my last year in music when I really liked new releases....

I've always been interested in this album...Looks like it has a lot of covers....And damn it...I waited so long it went out of print!

Is it any good?

Yes, Everything's OK is a Green/Mitchell partnership. It sounds like it was recorded in '73.

I love him, hes one of my all time fave artists. That voice!

I once had an argument with my indie/emo friends over who could make the most heart-wrenching, soul-destroying, sad song tape, and I won in the end because the fools had never heard of soul, let alone How Can You Mend A Broken Heart! cool
