MJB by far! She's only solidified her legend in the years that followed.

I've never been able to listen to too much of Blige's music. It seems like she tries too hard to be dramatic. I dig Lauryn's debut album, but it's not the masterpiece that most would have you believe. Although I've never listened to an entire album by Blige I'd rather listen to Lauryn's debut. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Definitely the Lauryn Hill CD.I remember,in 1998,there were only TWO CDs that I really loved...Madonna's 'Ray Of Light' and Lauryn's 'Miseducation of Lauryn Hill'.
As for Mary J...it's cool to hear her songs on the radio, but I never actually bought any of her albums. She's a great singer and all,but all her songs seem to be about the same thing (basically,"no more drama in my life").
