I could've sworn there was some news a year or so ago about SWV getting back together...they did a show or something. Maybe no label was interested in signing them since R&B isn't about singing at all anymore and the girls aren't 18 anymore! Sucks!

Maybe there's some industrial rock bands I'd prolly dig, but I can't say there are any artists who started in the 90s that I miss.

I loved New Jack Swing. I still bump Guy! It was cool and smooth. I miss that mellowed out R&B style. NOw all the females are 'hoochie looking' and all the guys are gangsta looking, very sad.

immature (their 1st album on virgin in 92' was tight b4 they went pretty 4 mca)
troop
phaze
prophet jones (a short lived "jodeci-esque", vibe but they were one of the few male r&b groups that could really sing)
dru hill(b4 sisquo choked on his own hype in 99'-2001 they were the shit)
IV Xample (had this 1 song in 95' called "from the fool" that was real nice)
good 2 go (only had 1 song called "never satisfied", but the bass player on the song was gettin as funky as he wanted 2 be)
the boys (could be looked at as yet another "jackson 5" throwback, but these 4 lil brothas from Africa by way of Compton were pretty damn good)

I know that hip-hop had started creeping into R&B music as far back as 1989, but at least it didn't begin to totally overtake R&B until about 1996. Now, unfortunately, it seems that most R&B can't be done unless it's based in hip-hop.

This thread is like a trip through my HS memory lane. I loved New Jack Swing & 90s R&B...

SWV
Tony Toni Tone
Tony Rich
Soul For Real
Jade
Xscape
Monica
Brandy
and the Boomerang and Low Down Dirty Shame soundtracks. nod

I used to have so many CDs but when I moved to NYC a couple years ago I purged my collection and got rid of a lot of the less popular groups. Wish I still had em... sad

I was just back at my parents house about a month ago going through my old cassette tapes (yes I didn't get into CDs right away boxed) and found some of these:

En Vogue
Shanice (I Love Your Smile music)
Nenah Cherry (Buffalo Stance)
PM Dawn
Blackstreet
Boys II Men
Heavy D
Sir Mix-a-lot (Swass!)
Tracie Spencer
JJ Fad (although they were a little more late 80s)
TLC (their first album)

and some Prince maxi cassette singles!! lol (Gett Off and 7)

forgot a few edit

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
