For those who claim MTV doesn't play Janet

I saw the Call On Me video on VH1 Soul, MTV Jams and MTV Hits. Does this not count as MTV? This was teh same with her videos from Damita Jo. The actual MTV channel rarely play videos anymore

I think that the general census is that MTV with all of it's channels has just treated Janet unfairly while supporting Justin. wink

there's your answer. while they may play more of a selection, including Janet Jackson, their other subsidiaries are not promoted or viewed by Mtv's core audience; or most of the general public for that matter.

I havent seen it on MTV Hits, but if they did play the video, it shows that MTV isn't totally ignoring Janet. After all, the song is a Top 40 hit(her first in 5 years) and is doing decently on urban radio. So they can't just pretend like it's some flop of a single like the ones that came off of Damita Jo

As for MTV(the main station) ignoring it, they ignore all music videos now. With the exception of TRL(which plays only portions of the video), the only time you can see a video on MTV is from 2am to about 8am, give or take. Those are ridiculous hours.

When 'All Nite (Don't Stop)' came out, I often caught it on VH1 Hits and MTV Hits. I haven't been watching MTV Hits lately, and we don't get VH1 Hits anymore, but I'd imagine that if they played 'All Nite', they would also play 'Call On Me'.

the argument wasn't that viacom wasn't supporting her, just mtv. they really suck with their, "the song just isn't that good" excuse, when you consider how much crap they do show on the network.

I don't understand what the fuss is about. Think back to being 12 years old - would you rather see a 25 year old man or a 40 year old woman on your screens? People here are not in MTV's demographic audience.

So are a huge handful of actresses, but they still don't get the parts now over women 10 years younger. It's the entertainment business. It's not fair, but it's not a vendetta against Janet.

I'm going to say this and risk the wrath of some of ya'll Janet fans! Janet's new song is horrible. It has no catchy beat or musical nuances. It is the safest song that I've heard out there in a while. She is not being innovative. As a matter of fact she needs new production. She is 40 and not 20! Yes she looks good at 40 but she needs to act her age and stop catering to a machine that pushes negative imagery! I am sick of sex with music. Are you trying to turn me on or are you trying to "sing"? I could care less about MTV playing her video or her songs until she puts out material worthy of that airplay. Sunbathing nude and the Superbowl incindent where IMO staged! That is what people do to draw attention to themselves. I don't buy it! Sorry but I don't. If you have to stoop to that level for attention then you surely need to reevaluate the love and RESPECT for music. I don't hate her but I feel she is falling to the trap set by media manipulation. It is ashamed because nobody is standing up for our young children as role models anymore. I work with people 3 times as talented as her and they are barely making it day by day. They got pipes too! And the music is so much more from the heart then I've heard from Janet. Sorry, but I think a lot of older folks will agree. I think a lot of people on here worship the "image" of Janet rather then truly looking at the music. Airbrush photos and sexy layouts have absolutely nothing to do with the credibilty of her material. The last album she put out with credence was Rhythm Nation. The rest was oversexed, moaning and groaning..... God if I hear Janet moan one more time... Sheeeeesh! Okay there, I said it. Who wants some? LOL!

Exactly. Has anyone ever heard Janet even talk about music? I never have in 20 years. I've also never seen her display a sign of anything vaguely resembling a personality. Janet was the kind of fraud we see a lot of in the industry nowadays. A thoroughly average person with moderate talent who is merely the front person for a whole lot of peoples' work behind the scenes. Take away the choreographers, stylists, producers, advisors, and what do you have? Only a very needy, confused person craving validation from the masses.

It's also interesting to note that for all her image as an independent woman she has been completely dependent on men for her whole career. First her father, then Jam and Lewis, then Rene Elizondo and now Jermaine Dupri(a very useful boyfriend to have).

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

You should register your protest by boycotting the new album. I love Prince but I stopped buying his albums years ago. Why? Because I'm not his bitch and if he wants my money he's gonna have to earn it. I will not reward mediocrity. With Prince though it was purely a musical problem. With Janet there's also a moral one. It is impossible to criticise the sorry state of modern music and support Janet at the same time if you have any intelligence or honesty as a person. The cheap publicity stunts, the tired, choreographed performances, the pursuit of commercial success over artistic achievement, and her complete lack of character or personality. I see absolutely no difference between her and Britney or J-Lo.
