There is a new 20 Gig iPOD coming out for msrp $499.
But all versions 5, 10, and 20 GB will have pc siblings compatible with Windows ME, 2000, and XP. They will be Firewire (or i-link in pc language). You should see it on-line very shortly.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I'm trying to find out if anybody has one and if there is any downside to it other than the price. I figure for another $100-$200 dollars it's worth it cause it will hold so much more than the cheaper versions that hold much less and still cost at least $200. I can't imagine having almost my whole record collection in my pocket. It really is like the first walkman. That was a thrill and this is the same thing for me. Remember when Walkman's cost $400? Now you can get them for $20 bucks! crazy shit.

Remember that when a manufacturer of an mp3 player states a maximum amount of songs that will fit on their product, they are refering to lower quality mp3's which are smaller file sizes. Your cd player using industry standard aiff playback will always sound better than the best mp3's. If apple says that it will hold 5000 songs, think more like 2000 or less when using a better quality mp3.
This is why they keep making the hard drive larger on the iPOD, as people wan't better sound which always requires more space. It's still the best player out there as far as "lossy" mp3 playback is concerned. Shop around, you'll probably come to the same conclusion. Good luck.

Most of mine are 128Kbps. Is 160k really cd quality or is cd even better than 160kbps?

All mp3's by their very nature are songs compressed using Mpeg (mp) format compression. This type is a "lossy" form of compression. The highs and lows of a songs sound range are "clipped" off so that the file size is smaller. If you were to compare a CD to an mp3 made at the highest kbps available, most people would prefer the CD. That being said, rip your favorite song from a CD and make low and high versions of mp3's of it. If you can live with the lower kbps version of the song, more power to you.
Also, if you listen to your music with headphones the differences will be more noticable. Pumping it through your car system might be satisfactory to your ears (with road noise and car noise as added distractions). But if you download a lot of your music, you are probably stuck with 128Kbs quality anyway. You can always bring a 160Kbs down to a lesser quality for more room anyways. Just try to download the highest versions you can find if you are going to burn to CD. -Peace

That's why I still buy cd's, especially well produced ones like the new Chili Peppers and Springsteen albums. The real thing sounds much better, but I will use the ipod for the gym and the beach so it does sound pretty cool!
