Some disturbing things about John Lennon, the Fbi, Elvis and artists of today Well this is all somehow connected and i will try to sum it all up with this post. I saw this "classified" special on John Lennon and how he was being watched by the FBI, there actually was a File on Lennon that is bigger than the "bin laden" file, now thats scary. Lennon was viewed as someone that was evil and dangerous to the regime at the time (nixon). Of course others were being watched too, like the Black Panthers whome Lennon was meeting with at times, but the even more interesting thing is that there was a file that was started by ELVIS citing that the beatles were dangerous, that they were infected the kids of the generation and that John Lennon could be planning an overthrow, so dont doubt the power that Elvis had, the fact that he may have been the one that caused Lennon to be watched which led to his deportation.
While i was watching this special i watched Lennon and Various events he was at, and the way musicians were uniting in their movements and things like that. And it made me think how pathetic the industry is today, Im not saying that every artist should do what Lennon was doing, I mean even in the 80's there were things like Live Aid etc... But today what are artists doing, well with the exception of maybe BONO and Springsteen nothing in america (could be why we are hated so), what was the years biggest protest, Jay Z against cristal, where are the Anti-iraq concerts, where are the Anti involvement in the Israel fiasco, are todays artists in america all so about themselves. It just seems in that time period later 60's early 70's that people like Lennon caused changes to happen. must have been his comments about being bigger than Jesus.
The people who sang louis Louis were being watched too. All because no one knew what they were singing. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Actually, the FBI and the CIA were not only watching people like the Black Panther Party and Martin Luther King, they actually placed operatives to weaken organizations and gain information. There was a plot to assassinate MLK Jr, and death threats which were ostensibly written by black men, but were later proven to have been written by FBI members.
I'm sure in Lennon's case it was his anti-establishment/bordering-on-socialist politics which caused the scrutiny. The Normal Whores Club

I was just gonna say... Reagan had just taken office, and we'd just begun an incredibly conservative decade. imagine how scary it might have been to some of the people who kept those files that John had come out of a long hibernation. Who knows how different the 80's would have been if Lennon had done more than just "Starting Over." My Legacy

Yeah i have long thought that too, as i know most people have about any "leader" that has been cut down or died early in life. Especially as a humanatarian and activist where would he be now and how would things be different, another one on my list would be Harry Chapin, though not murdered in terms of giving no one gave more than this guy "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Nobody was dogged by the FBI than Billie Holiday, as far as the entertaiment biz goes.
J. Edgar Hoover was following her moves and her personaly handled her self-titled FBI file. Eversince she made "Strange Fruit", she was called an "openly communist".

Well i feel that way too, but i have always wondered how such much info about Chapman was known right after the shooting, i mean hours after. Pictures of him, a whole story about his coming from hawaii then going back then coming back again, just alot of things that looked similar to the "oswald" cover story, you never know, the CIA has alot more power then we know. I think if Chapman was a CIA operative he would have made a clean getaway and wouldn't be still inside after 26 years!

He was very radical--not to a guy like me living in Berkeley, but to someone like Elvis or Nixon. Particularly around the time he was trying to move to New York, with songs like Angela & John Sinclair. Even Imagine is very anti-establishment. Unfortunately his most radical ideas were the ones about peace & love. My Legacy
