Your next gig?

The Zutons woot!
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

John Wesley Harding / The Minus 5 at the Tractor Tavern August 5th. I still don't know if this will be acoustic or electric.

Though I've 'sworn off' arena shows, Roger Waters at the Key in October is tempting.

OK, my next gig was going to be Belanova @ the Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, but I just realized while researching that their show JUST happened the same exact nite and time I saw...

...Hot Chip @ South Street Seaport. So, sadly I missed out on Belanova, since both groups were playing @ the same exact time. The Hot Chip gig was KILLAH, by the way, I was living my life by the end of their set.

But now I have a similiar dilemma brewing since I want to check out Tigercity and Chromeo -- both of which are playing on the same nite (Sept. 7), but the former is in the Lower East Side and their gig starts a little earlier, while the latter is in another part of town @ 10 pm. I'm going to try to make it to both! Hoping for the best.

On the 30th I'm going to see a reconstituted version of the Zombies playing at a local casino. I have no idea who is in the band these days, but at the least I'd hope vocalist Colin Blunstone will be there. I have no idea what to expect, but the price is reasonable so I'm willing to roll the dice.

The next night I'm going to see Todd Rundgren of all people. I was pretty shocked when I saw an ad for this show in the paper, since I was under the impression Todd was touring with the Cars these days. He doesn't have a new album or anything else to promote as far as I can see, so perhaps he's just doing some shows to earn a little scratch between legs of the Cars tour. Whatever the reason, I'm genuinely excited about this gig - Todd's a great talent and a true original.

wonder who his band will consist of?

According to this site, his band includes:

Jesse Gress
Jerry Marotta

I've never heard of either of those folks before...

and...

Tony Levin!!!??? - as in Tony Levin from King Crimson, Yes and Peter Gabriel's band? The big bald guy with the moustache? I'm thinking of the right guy, aren't I? Holy crap, if that's the same Tony Levin, then I just got a lot more excited. Not that I wasn't to begin with.

EDIT - confirmed Maybe he'll be playing that monstrosity you used to see him pounding away on in his KC days. This thing...

August 17th ~ Slim's

Nya Jade - started listening to her music on myspace after ordering tix, and I think I might buy her cd after I see her live. Sounds like the type of alternative R&B that I like.

Miggs - going mostly to see them since the myspace/ radio discovery

Common Sense - raggae, funk, rock band (not sure if I'll stay for the headliners, I need to check their music out)

It's a cheap show, so either way I figure I'll get my money's worth.

Yeah, that's the Tony Levin. Looks like you've hit the jackpot...

Some exciting news came in today - I'll be playing bass on a small tour with Todd Rundgren starting at the end of August. We'd been talking about the tour and holding some dates, but the confirmation just came in. Aside from August 25th at the House of Blues in Vancouver, there will be shows across Canada in the following weeks. I'll post the dates as soon as I have them.
And, also in the backup band will be Jesse Gress on guitar and Jerry Marotta on drums - so for those of you who have seen the Tony Levin Band show, it'll be a familiar looking lineup!
