If you like the neo classic rock sound buy this album : http://www.amazon.com/gp/...nce&n=5174

The drummer and bass player might even pull it off better... on this album.

thumbs up!

Ah, I see they have a WS connection. Are these guys part of the Raconteurs, too?

I can understand people writing off the White Stripes who haven't listened to them enough. I gave my friend a cd (White Blood Cells, my favorite) and he thought it was okay, but too derivative. But the more he listened, the more he recognized the charm & personality of the songs. Now he's a big fan.

To me they do something that Nirvana did; they write original & creative stuff that feels instantly familiar & catchy. Moreover, their sound is really organic & simple without being too simple.

The comments about the Raconteurs being better live is simply the mark of a great band. Even Britney Spears has records that sound good, but the great ones are even better live.

I may have to check them out. Is the other singer/writer one of the 2?

Yeah, I suppose it might be a bit much to call them a great band yet, but they are composed of at least one great musician.

The cd isn't great, but I like it and some of the songs are great. I think Jack elevates it, though. I think it would be fairly average without him.

It's late so I might be off here but this is the band as I understand it...

Jack lawewnce on bass
Patrick Keeler is on drums

Those dudes are from The Greenhornes...

Brendon Benson is quitar, vocals, keyboard

As is Jack.

Jack and Brendon Benson write the songs and lyrics together.

Brendon Benson is also a solo artist... with a bit of a cult following.

BTW Blue Veins live: http://www.yousendit.com/...F64FCB0C9C

Its a fantastic album, sounds very Zepellin influenced esp Broken Boy Soldier. My favourite track is Level, the guitar on that track is tremendous.
I was lucky to see them live in Glasgow this year, their second ever gig and it was there and then that i decided Jack White was a guitar God.
I just happen to have a copy of the Glasgow show i was at,its good to go back to it now and again.
The thing was when i saw them we only slightly new Steady as She Goes and Store Bought Bones because those tracks were put on their web-site.So the crowd is really quiet because we were listening to the songs, compared to how jumping it would have been if we knew all the tracks.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Still an album I have yet to get. I can't stand the White Stripes, but this band intrigues me a bit more for some reason. Just by word-of-mouth reviews of them though. I haven't heard a note so far.

What would be GREAT, is if I could see them live first because they're playing at First Ave. on Thursday, but it's sold out. sad

Why do you hate the White Stripes? Are they toolike Zeppelin? To my ears that's definitely their biggest influence.

This album has two songs that are very, very Zeppelin-esque, but now that sound is becoming Jack White-esque to me as well.

I never thought they sounded like Zeppelin at all actually. Then, about a year ago they broadcasted some live show of thier on MTV2 and I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and watch it. I didn't know any of their songs, and the first one I heard sounded horrible. whofarted I decided to kepp watching to see if they were going to play anything I found remotely interesting, and it just went downhill from there IMO. I watched them do about 6 songs and I just coulnd't understand the hype. The audience looked like they were about to wet their pants at everything Jack did, and I actually had to laugh because I just didn't "get" it. I thought his guitar playing was rudimentary at best on electric, but he did get better when he pulled out the acoustic. Now I know that Jimmy Page is no technical genius on guitar, but he has this amazing quality and passion for playing that really draws me in. So there are some similarities there, because a lot of times I like Page BETTER on acoustic than electric. He's got a lot more clarity. But then his "who-the-fucks-cares" attitude on their heavier songs on electric just make me drool and I love his rapturous passion for playing, and all is forgiven. razz

I don't know. Everything sounded really simplistic (I just can't get into hard rock being played by only two people onstage I guess. shrug I like a much richer, fuller and heavier sound) and uninteresting. Nothing really caught my ear, and it definitely didn't make me want to buy their album. I just think they're overrated.

I think it's cool though that they are (and the Raconteurs) influenced by Zeppelin. More power to them. I just don't hear it in the White Stripes, from what I've heard of them. I wouldn't mind hearing it though, because as you know, I love Zeppelin's sound. lol Which is why I'm interested in hearing The Raconteurs. nod

But I know Jack White and Jimmy are sort of friends though. I posted recent pics of them together on another thread here recently. nod And Jack named his new baby after Jimmy's daughter Scarlet, so you know he's a huge fan of the man. So I guess that makes him sort of cool in my eyes. razz lol

Live, I guess they don't come across as too much like Zeppelin, probably because their sound is too thin as a 2 piece. But on record they're more like a normal rock band.

I said earlier that I think it's easy to write them off because their songs sound so familiar & simple at first. You could think they're not doing anything new. But the songs have such charm that they grow on you.

You might want to check out Elephant (you must know someone you can borrow it from). It has the fullest sound of all their albums, but my favorite is White Blood Cells. The Raconteurs is cool, too. I wouldn't start with Get Behind Me Satan.

But then, maybe you just don't like them, and I would still accept you if that was the case!

Easy, child, I didn't say it was the best, just the fullest sounding.

Of course De Stijl is great, maybe their best, and if someone was looking for some acoustic Zep style rock, look no further than I'm Bound to Pack it Up.
