The most Influential Albums What do think are the most influential albums ever.? Not necessarily what your personal favourite albums, but the albums you believe have changed the course of music or have influence a generation of other artists.

The White Album - The Beatles. This album displays so much diversity. The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd This album is dark and so thought provoking.

i do think the white album had a big influence on today's indie rock scene. experimental, image-free (secondary, anyway), eclectic, based in folk/blues/country...it kinda reminds me of a pavement album.

I heard that with this album the modal jazz begun. Jobim and his own crossover Real turning point to The Beatles And this comes from Rubber Soul but it gave ideas to the Beatles for Sargent Pepper "Todo está bien chévere" Stevie

Although I am not a Beatles fan I would have to say any number of Beatles albums, i.e "Rubber Soul", "The white Album" and "Sgt Pepper"
"What's going on" by Marvin Gaye, for it's social message. "Of The Wall" by MJ, for the influence it has had on dance music and RnB artist overall.

Desmond Dekker
' Desmond Dekker and the Aces' Dessy was the original Rude Boy. Without his influence there would have been no reggae, no Marley, no ska, no dub, no Clash, ect. Rest in peace Rudie [Edited 6/24/06 6:13am] "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

A couple of mid-90's classics...
Obviously: Influenced this entire crop of Keane/Coldplay/Travis bands: I hear a lot of this in today's modern rock: I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Although, the Green Day one, and probably the Radiohead one wouldn't be considered amongst the "Most" influential albums of all time, I guess... I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

revolver and sgt pepper are far more influential beatles albums then the white album or abbey road! Sgt Pepper was even the first to print the lyrics if I read right.
I also think Sign o the times is hugely influential on many of the pop/r&b/hiphop producers your are hearing today. I really think that album cast a huge wake that spread wide to this day with people in the industry. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I can't believe this thought had never occured to me before, because it seems utterly, completely, blindingly obvious now that you've pointed it out.
