Yet it has been some time since we have seen the likes of BILAL. Bilal is clearly possessed with that oldest instrument: the Voice. Bilal has twice appearing on Common's Like Water For Chocolate, Guru's Jazzmatazz Street Soul, and writing and producing with kin like Erykah Badu, His solo work 1st Born Second is a symbolic raising of the bar, worthy of critical examination. I guess I will never see him live   .
He cancelled the concert I was planning to attend in Frankfurt this spring and just last week he cancelled his performance near my hometown just days before the concert would have taken place  . I am reallly pissed, I was so looking forward to finally see him live .With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! That young man is so simultaneously brilliant and troubled sometimes it hurts my feeling just to watch him onstage! But I do love his live performances. Does anybody remember when E.Badu went through a phase like that? Not drunk or high, but during the Mama's Gun tour when she would practically be "excorcising" herself onstage. My friends and I were really into the energy of those performances but I've seen people walk out of those shows, same for Bilal  [Edited 7/19/06 9:22am] | |
