How many legends are there around Ohio Players "Love Rollercoaster"?

So last night I came home and my nephew came to me and asked me if I knew the rollercoaster song. The first thing that came to mind was Ohio Player's "Love Rollercoaster"

Roller Coaster, of Love
Roller Coaster, ooh ooh ooh ooh

And he said yeah, that one. He asked if I heard the story about that song and I told him the story I heard when I was a kid. My older cousin had told me that the scream in the middle of the song was the actual scream of a girl falling off a real roller coaster to her death. I was probably around 7 when she told me that and so for years I was very afraid of that song lol

After telling him that story he said that he knew the real story. He said that the girl on the cover ended up spilling the honey on her chest and arms and that the honey got stuck to her skin and when she tried to get it off, her skin just ripped off her arms and that she went crazy and ran into the music studio while they were recording and they caught her screams as she was being gunned down by the recording engineer.

WHAT THE HELL!!! lol

Are there any other stories surrounding the scream on Love Roller Coaster? lol

The only one I've heard is that a girl was murdered in the studio while the song was being recorded and you can hear her scream in the song.

The one u opened up your thread with is the "official" legend and the most well known. I remember hearing about it from my older cousins when I was little. I thought it was spooky and I dug it cuz of that! The Ohio Players are definately one of my all time fave bands in the world.

At least the legend has a good soundtrack. Never heard anything like any of that but it's funny that a story like that could actually spread. I guess there was so much more room for legend in the pre Google days.

I'm just cracking up that 31 years later stories are still being told about that song lol

I think it's funny that the song even has it's own legend. If we wanted to create one today, it wouldn't work.

I'm more surprised that kids today know the song. How old is your nephew?

If because of the legend, he knows of this song, too bad there weren't more legends.
Now I gotta poll all the 12 year olds, I know.

This ia actually the "offical" story they were hyping back in the days to sell the record.
But as we know today, there is no truth to it whatsoever ... the guys just started the rumour to sell records. Nobody got murdered in that studio. lol

I've heard so many rumor's about that song. One of them being that the scream of the woman being stabbed to death was caught on tape at an Ohio Players concert, And it was dubbed into the studio version of the song. I don't believe one word of this urban legend. First of all, why would you want a dying woman's scream on your record? And if the myth about the woman on the cover is true, Why keep the dead woman's picture as the album cover? How morbid is that? I agree with most of you that it was just a way to sell more records. But i've heard that they still can't find the woman who was on the album cover.

Just followed the link. Talk about B movie murders/comedy. It's so funny that people could have been naive enough to even consider that there was some truth in those stories. But then you think back to the original "War of the Worlds" and you realize, they were.

I know they were decades apart but even then, the world was a lot more naive/vulnerable than it is in these Google days.

In my defense I was 6 or 7 when my cousin told me that story lol

The urban legend I recall back in the day was that the woman on the cover died from her body being covered in honey causing her pores to clog. I am not quite sure how clogged pores can cause someone to die. Isn't there another picture of her with her body covered in honey?
