Ah, thank you. Those were the words I was looking for.

As much as James is an icon of talent, showmanship, and FUNK, I personally prefer others that came after him in all three categories. Above all, he is a crucial icon of extremely vast influence.

Maybe the best stage performer ever - few can come close to his stage presence.

Best recording artist ever? He's done some seriously phenomenal stuff, but I'd have to say no. He's above a LOT of great folks, but not THE best.

In his day yes he was the best ever, and without him there would have been no Prince, but which I mean not Prince as we know him.
James Brown has not really influenced all of Pop Music as we know it. But also with James the whole was greater than the sum of the parts; the musicians and arrangers, co-song writers and band leaders who were with him in his "hay-day" contributed. James was at his best when his band was also the pick of the crop.
Which is why I feel that what he does today is sometimes almost a travesty of what he once was...but whatever, you ahve to give him credit for the huge influence he had back in the 1960's and the doors that opened for everyone since.
You only have to listen to any classic James Brown to hear that.
(I took this as a serious question!)

HA!
Yall need to go BACK to school.

James IS the best ever.

Why?
Before James.....no funk....did not exist.
After James.....funk is born.

No other artist has revolutionized single handedly,...dance and music.
And when i say revolutionizing...I mean REVOLUTIONIZING!

Remember anytime you hear a funky beat....you ARE HEARING the influence of James Brown.
Period.
Wether its Purple Haze by Hendrix, or the freakin theme song to Dawson's Creek.
Its James, baby.

Try to imagine music today ...or for the past 40 years ...if NO music was FUNKY!!!!

Cause thats the world yall'd be livin in if there had never been JAMES BROWN.
