Eminem Considering the obvious mass appeal/commercialism of his music, his often juvenile persona, and the fact that thousands of punk-assed suburban white kids adored him, I know it's extremely fashionable to hate on him.
But I think The Slim Shady LP and The Marshall Mathers LP are great rap records. Better than the Beastie Boys? Hell, no. Classics of their time? I don't know about THAT, either. But whether the guy was clowning around or being serious, I think he made top-notch songs back in those days. "My Name Is...", "Guilty Conscience", "My Fault", "Rock Bottom", "Stan", "The Way I Am".... "Lose Yourself" from the 8 Mile soundtrack was also great, of course. His albums post-Mathers aren't up to scratch, especially that hot mess known as Encore. But hell, even if you didn't like ANY of his work, I don't think anyone could deny his talent. So what are your thoughts on him? | |

I would definitely have to concur about The Marshall Mathers LP. That album was top-notch in it's day. Hard to believe it's only 6 years old... Ooh, little darlin' if you're

I really liked The Marshall Mathers LP ....after that shit got kinda old. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

He was a genuinely exciting, original presence for a few years. The Beasties can't touch him lyrically, but I think we all agree it went downhill after the second album. Shame, 'cos he was an original. There aren't many of them, especially in 21st century hip hop | |

i didn't like the Slim Shady LP, but i loved the Marshall LP and the Eminem Show(til I Collapse is a great track, even though 50 ripped that track on his mixtape around the same time), and for the person who said Eminem can't mess with the Beastie Boys, what are you smoking, Eminem could eat all 3 Beastie's alive in a battle, at the fucking sametime | |
