What about these from the Funky 4 + 1 More :
- Do You Wanna Rock ( featuring Before I Let Go , from Maze & Frankie Beverly )
- That's The Joint ( feat. Rescue Me , Taste Of Honey )
- Whip It ( f. Let It Whip , Dazz Band )

Another that pops up .

Featuring Joey Robinson , Jr ( on the right )
.... son of Sugarhill Records-owner Sylvia Robinson .

Actually ... they were a singing group clueless

But a great thing that Sugarhill released both rap ,funk , jazz & soul-artists .
And their household band was on fire :
- Doug Wimbish - bass
- Keith LeBlanc - drums
- Skip McDonald - guitar
- Chops - horn section

Doug was formely in the band Wood Brass & Steel which released their first album on Sylvia Robinson's Turbo Records in the 70's , and one hard2find 2nd album on Sugarhill Records .
Doug , Keith & Skip formed later as an industrial funk-outfit called Tackhead .
After Doug had performed with Living Colour for a few years , he reunited with his former jam-buddy's under the name of Junge Funk.

Man, I love 80's rap music, it was so much better than what it is now. It was lighthearted and fun, and it wasn't about shootings, gangs, hos and drugs like it is now. Groups like Run DMC, Whodini, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, shoot, even the Fat Boys were cool back in the day. 80's music was great back then, it's sad to see how much it has changed. I can't even listen to most of the rap music that is out nowadays, which is sad when you think about it.

This dirty south shit that's out there now, and I do mean shit, reminds me so much of 2 Live Crew. It seems that rap music is moving backwards instead of evolving into the beautiful artform it was in the early and mid 90's.

I am a fan of 80's rap music though, I remembered when the radio only played it on weekends for three hours a night on two radio stations in New York as a teenager, Kiss F.M.(Red Alert) and WBLS(Mr. Magic). I remember that Run D.M.C. was the first to intergrate rap music with Rock & Roll, not with "Walk This Way" as MTV, VH-1 and other white oriented music stations so erroreously report, but with "Rock Box", then did it again on the King of Rock album with "King of Rock", I remember the comming and going of the Fat Boys, Criminal Minded by Boogie Down Productions, and sadly the passing of D.J. Scot LaRock of the same group. Sweet T., Supernature(Salt-N-Peppa), Antoinette, M.C. Lite, Roxanne Shante, The Real Roxanne who came before Queen Latifa, the summer of 86' when the rap game changed with "Eric B. for President" and his copycay the Big Daddy Kane.

Remember when Rakim and Heavy D. had the same beat for their songs "I Ain't No Joke" and "The Overweight Lover's In The House" on the air at the same time?
Do you remember the battles between LL and Kool Moe D.? Do you remember Kool Moe D before he went solo with the group The Trecherious Three with their song "Gotta Rock"?

Remember when Slick Rick entered the game with Dougie Fresh, and the cover to their song"The Show" "Inspector Gadget"?

Remember Public enemies "Terminator X", LL's "Rock the Bells(Remix)" EPMD's "It's My Thing".

Those days are gone forever.....

What do you remember?

The formula is still one of my all time favorite rap songs....
I still think he should write for some of these talentless fuckers out there. it would help the art form so much.
