Billboard: Throng greets Lil' Kim Outside Philly Jail

http://www.billboard.com/...1002765358

July 03, 2006, 10:20 AM ET

Lil' Kim celebrated Independence Day one day early with her release from a Philadelphia federal detention center this morning (July 3) after nearly 10 months behind bars. The rapper, who was sent to prison for lying about a shootout outside a New York radio station, walked out of the jail looking glamorous in sunglasses and an all-white, cleavage-baring outfit.

Carrying a balloon and a bouquet of white roses, she waved to dozens of cheering onlookers -- some carrying signs that said, "Welcome Home, Queen Bee" -- before getting into a silver Rolls Royce. The car pulled into a nearby parking lot where she re-emerged to greet the throng.

"I love you," she said, blowing kisses. Some fans stayed up all night to ensure they made it downtown in time for her 6 a.m. release.

The 4-foot-11 entertainer, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, began serving her time in the detention center Sept. 19. She was sentenced to a year and a day in prison, but was released early for good behavior.

She will remain under house arrest for 30 days and be under supervised release for three years.

I may be crazy but this story just bothers me, so does the fact that Billboard is covering it. It seems most coverage Black Artists mainly Rap get coverage when they get out of jail or go to jail and then this spikes album sales, this seems to be feeding the youth, Mtv did a huge story on Kims release too. Im not singling out Lil Kim, but MTV recenlty has spent hours on shootings of Proof, the Busta Rhymes incident and much more. This seems to just send a message that this is all Black artists have to offer. I mean lets spend an hour on Van Hunt or India Arie or Meshell or the Roots, or do we have to wait till they get jailed or shot for recognition. I think this was all showcased on the BET awards, you had Harry Belafonte on one side and then TI on the other who do u think the youth paid attention too

Unfortunately that's probably what it would take disbelief I don't think those artists are empty/blingy/slick enough to be celebrated in the media like that. The media made Paris Hilton, that shows you what they're all about - absolutely nothing... in a skirt neutral

Honestly, man, it's going to have to start with us using peer pressure on the folks who support that kind of music.

I don't think we call out our friends about their music choices enough. I know I could do more than I do.

"You mean you actually bought the R. Kelly album? Really???" brick

But, we don't get in people's faces about shameful, shallow artists who disrespect themselves and our people.

We don't get in the faces of the radio stations whose formats perpetuate the foolishness.

We don't get in the faces of the record labels. So, C. Dolores Tucker stood out as an easy target, as a loon to some, just because she wanted black women to be respected.

Until we as a people start saying in a resounding voice: "That artist doesn't represent black culture... Boycott them and their label and the media corporation that owns the label..." expect more of the same.

Forget Billboard and MTV's pieces. Dollars talk.

Lil Kim is a fuckin joke. This whole prison shit is so cliche is ridiculous.

She releases her album when she's about go to prison - we've seen this sort of thing before with 2pac - it was supposed have skyrocketing success, right?...psych! The album flopped. And the shit was overrated, thanks to the Source giving an undeserved 5 mic rating.

She claims she was found guilty cause she chose not to snitch, but she was guilty cause she was caught lying on the stand - she claimed she didnt know a certain guy that she had given shoutouts to on records in the past. Then she tried to accuse Lil Cease of testifying, but in reality, between the time of the Hot 97 shooting incident and the time before the trial started, the feds had been secretly tapping their phones, their pages, following them, video-tapping them, photographing them, etc. to use in the case.

She talks about snitches all on her album, but yet, she was in prison cleaning the warden's offices for "good behavior" - aint it a lil ironic?

She never shot video in her own Brooklyn hood until she was about to go to prison - something that screams for street credibility - not to mention she was looking like a black Pamela Lee in the video, all supermodeled up while in the middle of the gutter. Get the fuck outta here...

After seeing her last few days of freedom before goin to prison on that her BET show (something that we've also seen before with Beanie Sigel's trial), I guess everybody was supposed to feel sorry for her. Nope.

Overall, her "hollyhood" gimmick is corny.

People celebrate the oddest things. she was convicted of a crime, albeit perjury, but still a crime. she's being treated like a hero. she's no hero, just the product of a good public relations firm. Let's treat teachers, cops, fireman, emt's, etc as heroes. it makes me nauseous whats going on at lil kim's house today sick disbelief barf
