RE-WORKED, RE-MIXED, & REVIVED ?

djs/remixers/producers

Victor Calderon, Hex Hector, Palo Flores, Junior Vasquez, David Morales, Roger Sanchez, Miguel Miggs, Thunderpuss, Danny Tenaglia, TNT, Richard "Humpty" Vission, Tracy Young, Scumfrogs, Brothers In Rhythm, Jermaine Dupree, C&C, Rodney Jerkins, etc....

which are your favourites. but more specifically which do you think overall does the best mixes or enhances an artist's song?

also many of the org's favourite 'divas' have used the same djs. making some of their remixes just as popular if not more so than the original. so who of the lot do you think, again over all, has the best remixes in her catalogue?

MADONNA
Kylie Minogue
Gloria Estefan
Tori Amos
Jennifer Lopez
Janet Jackson
Dannii Minogue
Britney Spears
Björk
Jody Watley
Celine Dion
Mariah Carey
Cher
Beyoncé/Destiny's Child
Whitney Houston

Madonna used to, but she's really fallen off in the last 10 years.

Though she's not even one of my favorite artists, Mariah's remixes have always been great. That is one of the reasons (aside from the $0.50 price tag) her singles did so well. She wasn't lazy when promoting her singles. She went back into the studio and reworked the vocal tracks instead of having them sped up or slowed down. She knew how to market her singels to different audiences. Madonna was also very good in the early to mid 90s.

I used to love Madonna*s remixes, especially with Junior Vasquez but I havent really been impressed over the last several years.

Mariah*s remixes are some of the best. I really like the dances mixes she does with David Morales but I even like the R&B remixes. Like RipHer2Shreds said, she goes in redoes the vocals. Sometimes it doesnt even sound like the same song. Far more than an extended mix, radio edit and an instrumental version.

My favorite remixes are David Morales and Masters at Work and probably Miguesl Migs.

thinking about remixes.... I wish we could get back to having extended/12" mixes. club mixes are fine, but they're usually so monotonous and boring. and hardly resemble the songs they're based on. they're usually some DJ completely replacing all of the music with his own.

i just wish for every single out there, that there was an old fashioned extended 12" mix. those were the best.

Off that list I like The Scumfrog the most. Altough his/their own solo material is pretty damn stupid.

yeah, I have to go for Björk too. even if it was just for her work
with Matmos she would still come out on top of this for me.

Except they haven't done very many good remixes for her. Most are pretty silly, and they've admitted that's what they were going for.

Do you guys know what type of music the guys in Matmos make on their own? It's exactly "click click clack or rattling bits of machinery that sound like a musicbox that fell apart and was put together the wrong way". I haven't heard the Björk remixes but I think Matmos is one of the most important bands of the last ten years. I am constantly astounded by their talent.

For the most part,I'm bored with remixes.I buy Madonna's remixes strictly for collection purposes (since I have everything else she's ever released, lol). These days, remixes are predictable and by-the-numbers.

So far I've liked every remix I've heard by Stuart Price.

As for artists, yeah, Björk's are definitely the most interesting.

take away everything that made the original song worth listening to and replace it with bland, repetitive beats and chopped up vocals instead of lyrics.
