Rusty Allen was/is a slammin' bass player. He was a good replacement for Larry.

I love hearing this song live! The added background vocals and punchier horns are outstanding. I've been dying to see that soul train performance, though good it still doesn't compare to the 6min version he played on In Concert. That version was on fire!

In the excellent documentary "Skin I'm in"
there's a clip in the end credit where Sly's at the
piano singing this song and the soul in his vocals are
just mindblowing!!!

Larry Graham has nothing to with that bassline. Sly wrote and played that bassline on the record.

"Que sera sera" and "If it were left up to me".

Que Sera Sera, is such a horrible song...
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Really? I totally love that rendition. Granted, the song ain't that great, but S and the Family's version of it is so different and cool I can't help but love it.

"Fresh" is just a monster album, full stop. It's just so fresh and cool. Release that album today and no one will think it was made in the 70's - it would totally kick the shit out of everything deemed 'popular' or 'hip' today.

"If You Want Me To Stay" is an incredibly moving and effective song.

I totally agree!!!
Sly's choice of covering "Que sera sera" was so unlikely but he made
it his.Turning the 3/4 into a soulful 6/8,and of course the add of
his incredible vocals along with sister Rose.

I always wondered if his "relationship" with Doris Day had something to do with him covering that song.
