Peer to Peer Piracy Prevention Act article at Salon.com!

~*~

More on the Music Industry trying to pass bills to hack into your computer!

"The fight against online music piracy entered the realm of the bizarre last Thursday, when Rep. Howard Berman, D-Calif., proposed giving the recording industry sweeping new powers to do what, for the rest of us, would be illegal: hacking computer networks.

Berman's bill, the Peer to Peer Piracy Prevention Act, allows record companies to respond to the "theft" of copyrighted materials by "disabling, interfering with, blocking, diverting, [or] otherwise impairing" a peer-to-peer file-trading network.

As long as record companies do these things to prevent the trading of their copyrighted works, they couldn't be prosecuted under computer crime statutes."

It's getting uglier...just when you hope it's all about the music.

Wow, suprised no one responded to this... neutral okay well I'll respond to myself.

Seems like you either have to use an F word or come up with something stupid like does Prince wash his car or a thread on anal etiquette...fine. mad

Here goes...

Yeah FCP, I'm I can't believe this is happening right under our noses! I used to buy a lot of albums but ever since the RIAA called me a pirate instead of a music lover, well that just ain't right! I don't download MP3 like I used to but I sure as heck ain't goingta buy THEIR overpriced sucky CD's!

Boycotting I am!

But unfortunately they, the record industry blame everybody else other than their evil greedy ways...but who suffers...not only the music buying public but the musicians they hire. Why? Because THEY, the artists are set up to lose at the end.

The RIAA has made me out to be a "PIRATE" even if record a TAPE of my latest and most favorite new artists for my friend or family member...I'M A PIRATE!

Right! Man, you...you FlyingCloudySpider, you're on it bro'!

hammer
RIAA

It's really a BATTLE between the people and the corporations if you look at it.

Let's look back to the mid 90's, say around when the internet made made it's way to the people...around 94 or 95. Okay, PEOPLE were the one's who made the internet fun and a fascinating experience, either it was strange and cool websites or porn.

But it was fun constantly discovering sites that were about your interests or new things or heck, you made you're little website to share stuff, pictures, info, etc...it essentially belonged to THE PEOPLE.

Granted there were some big business BUT it was OUT WEIGHED by small homegrown websites.

Then around the mid to late 90's, say around 97 or so, greed reared it's ugly head. Sure more porn sites came up, sure people still did their websites for pleasure and information...but BIG Business caught on to the goldmine, and POSSIBILITY of making lots of cash on the internet.

But THEN comes around Napster in let's say...around...98 or 99 and BAM! THE PEOPLE are now fighting back with actions...TRADING MP3's etc, etc. you know the story. Taking a bite from the record industry, from BIG BUSINESS.

But again, the industries clear paths for their interests much like the U.S. Government and it's Armies removed the Native American's to open the road for gold diggers, industries and their machines...for greed to flourish like a wild robotic animal.

The people then are hired to run the companies...to get underpaid, exploited, TRICKED, enslaved...much like they enslaved, Mexicans, Chinese and other groups to dig the gold for them! Albiet, yes now we're paid but don't they just wish they could not pay you! In the end maybe they'll just steal from you.

Hey IceNine! wave Glad you joined our discussion!

Here's what I have to say *typing with me right hand and left hook..rrr...

FCP, let me share my experience as opinionated as it is...speaking from experience...here's how it's set up. The few people upstairs, the CEO's, the Lawyers, the VP's of this the VP's of that, they few in that small but TOP TIER click or club, those are the one's who walk away with the riches they promised the employees...the masses, the people.

Then they WILL to trickery, much like you see in the news, fix the books, lie to the investors, lie to wall street, heck even build buildings for new head quarters they CAN'T afford to make it seem like they are doing "really well" so more money flows the way to the "club".

Then they divide and conquer. There's always the few kiss asses who are on their side and agree to all the "club" does, even though logic and intelligence tells you it's wrong. that in turn pisses you off. You the smarter hard working fellow co-worker in the "lower" tier...doing the hard, sweaty work, diggin through mines...finding and constantly digging gold for them. That starts fights down below. The upper club's got you distracted, and fighting each other.

Then the company goes bust. What happens, they lay you off or FIRE you, then you're stuck with no 401k, no promised stock options, no pensions, buh buy. Kicked out the door, thank you very much for your services.

And who get's the big money, the golfing "club". They walk away with it all.

Why I explained all that is because like the Sly Stone song says, "You're a midget standing tall, the gian next to you about to fall" it true. They are falling. The Record Labels are panicking. Lots more will too. But it's NOT THE PEOPLE'S FAULT, it's their own greed that's their undoing!!!

The damage is really far reaching if you think about it. One element that just bugs the bigizzies out of me is that CHILDREN are growing up thinking the "iiinnerrnet" is just a big consumer, shopping mall.

Big business has turned the internet into a big billboard ridden, shopping mall. With banners, commercials, they've devided in into either, PORN or SHOPPING.com for the unknowing public.

Did ya'lls know that .com stands for COMmerce? NOT COMmunication, NOT for COMputer!

Wow, really?!?! .COM stands for COMMERCE?!?! Wow! That's a new what for me guy!

You know...luckily we still have interesting sites, the original internet exists, just that it's overshadowed and OVERPOWERED by greed.

We still have BANNER FREE Prince.org. A place FOR THE PEOPLE to inform ourselves of things that relate not only to our musical hero Prince, but to our, the buying music lovers, fans, "fams", to our benefit.

I may reconsider complaining about crazy topics...would your BIG Business, BIG BROTHER, the corporate BOSS try to silence you if you spoke you're mind about the company or anything that does not agree with their interests? Yes, and strike down on you they will. Hard.

Here, well, here we have a bit of fredom to express ourselves. Sure, some topics are stupid, but I'm thinking most, not all, are stuck in one of those jobs were freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of opinion, is constantly being suppressed. Where else to busrt out of that cubicle than at the org, a place FOR THE PEOPLE!

Prince.org--> hug <---The music loving people!

It will probably happen many more times in the future... clever hackers will also trace the connections that the RIAA makes to computers and hack their computers to death.

It will happen.

yes yes...this is an interesting read...but, i think most people saw it coming...maybe thats why there is a lack of responce...people agree, yes there should be control of copyrighted music yet...dont stop me from stealing the tunes...

and for the record..im all for filesharing less then cd quality music...it makes since, create your own radio on your puter..the stuff you really like you can purchase.

but: while the record execs are fighting with the techheads...radiohead is doing what they do best, progress. they have decided to allow *leaks* of over 16 new tracks...the qualities vary and for the most part the tunes are live versions. they are going to ask for a vote from the online fan community on which 10-12 tracks should be included on their next studio release...*this* is making the internet work for you..

all the while acts like Eminem are freaking out over internet piracy...and Prince creates *clauses* in his npgmc thingie that forbids filesharing...*duh*, anyone think about the exposure the work gets with filesharing...

silly silly stupid artist and record execs...
