Stevie Wonder's Mom Is Dead!

From another board:

Lula Mae Hardaway, Mother of Stevie Wonder, Mourned in L.A.

Services were recently held in Los Angeles for Lula Mae Hardaway, mother of legendary singer/songwriter Stevie Wonder. She was 76.

Mrs. Hardaway was praised during services at famed West Angeles Church of God In Christ for being warm, generous and supportive.

Motown Records founder Berry Gordy jokingly told the crowd that Mrs. Hardaway was a skillful and tough negotiator for her son, making demands long before he even signed with Motown. He said she was like a mother to all who loved her.

Besides Gordy, words and songs were provided by actress Akosua Busia, Beverly Todd, James Ingram, the Soul Seekers, Kim Burrell and Take 6. Wonder eulogized his mother and serenaded her.

Born in Eufaula, AL, she moved to East Chicago, IN, at age 15 and soon settled in Detroit. Like her son, she joined Motown as a songwriter/composer.

Besides Wonder, she is survived by five children, 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five siblings. A private burial followed the service.

And really, so was his mom. It's getting so these days, with folks living so long, you kinda expect people to die in their 80's not 70's! My mom is a young 76 and my dad a young 81 (this is the dude that danced with Prince during Musicology in Detroit!)

Prayers go out to Stevie and his family. pray
