The most Influential Albums

What do think are the most influential albums ever.? Not necessarily what your personal favourite albums, but the albums you believe have changed the course of music or have influence a generation of other artists.

The White Album - The Beatles.

This album displays so much diversity.

The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd

This album is dark and so thought provoking.

i do think the white album had a big influence on today's indie rock scene. experimental, image-free (secondary, anyway), eclectic, based in folk/blues/country...it kinda reminds me of a pavement album.

i think simon & garfunkel's "bookends" is HUGELY influential on the standards of singer-songwriters to this very day.

Although I am not a Beatles fan I would have to say any number of Beatles albums, i.e "Rubber Soul", "The white Album" and "Sgt Pepper"

"What's going on" by Marvin Gaye, for it's social message.

"Of The Wall" by MJ, for the influence it has had on dance music and RnB artist overall.

Desmond Dekker
' Desmond Dekker and the Aces'

Dessy was the original Rude Boy. Without his influence there would have been no reggae, no Marley, no ska, no dub, no Clash, ect.

Rest in peace Rudie pray

Although, the Green Day one, and probably the Radiohead one wouldn't be considered amongst the "Most" influential albums of all time, I guess...

revolver and sgt pepper are far more influential beatles albums then the white album or abbey road! Sgt Pepper was even the first to print the lyrics if I read right.

I also think Sign o the times is hugely influential on many of the pop/r&b/hiphop producers your are hearing today. I really think that album cast a huge wake that spread wide to this day with people in the industry.

I can't believe this thought had never occured to me before, because it seems utterly, completely, blindingly obvious now that you've pointed it out.

Too many people bought that record for it to be truly alternative.

It all depends on how you define that word. shrug
