like you, i just didnt knwo any other, as ipod rns one hell of a good publicity campaign. the salesman at virgin was ultra-cool, and said, well, i can sell you an ipod, which we have in stock, but you should get a zen, which we dont carry. he said that ipods only take a few particular file types, and only ONE video file type, which is mac based. whereas the zen takes almost ANY kind of file type, including the video file types i usually use (divx, xvid, mpg, avi, etc)

and on top of it- my friends chris, ryan, and steven all bought i-pods more or less around the same time, and everyone of them has had to have it replaced for battery or hard drive trouble. mine gives me almost no trouble other than the occasional freeze up.

See IPods will never come down in price...they keep making new ones and phasing out the old ones to keep the price at 3-4 hundred. AND you have to use it with iTunes (which rips I think m4a's). Creative is non proprietary and can play a variety of formats. I am not even sure that iPod will play anything other than the format it creates.

Also...also iPod has this thing about it with it's syncing. Meaning lets say you loaded up your iPod with music and then dumped the music off of your computer, when you reconnect your iPod it will try and sync with what ever "playlist" you had pointed it to. If the playlist..or more so music in it is gone, it will over write and delete your music. I think there may be a work around where it will not sync up automatically and you can drag and drop (perhaps) songs into the iPod. I have known folks to lose all what's in their iPod for this reason.

"Dmitry's Toronto history dates back to the mid-'80s, when he inaugurated Rock 'n' Roll Fag Bar, a rarified mix that brought together the Jackson Five, Kraftwerk and Tom Jones. This postmodern formula -- everything old is new again! -- hardly seems daring now, but to a dance scene stumbling on its last legs, it was a breath of fresh air.

The essence of this New York-born event was parlayed into the formation of Deee-Lite. As much a "band" as a happening, Deee-Lite's worldly view of bubblegum and house music mixed the sensibilities of Russian émigré Dmitry Brill, Japanese sound surgeon Towa Tei and brassy American chanteuse Lady Kier Kirby. The resulting hybrid of '70s AM radio soul and sampledelia was at least partly responsible for bringing the funk back to suburban white kids via their one massive hit, "Groove Is in the Heart."

Flash-forward only four years and see Deee-Lite struggling against the delete bin with their luminous third and final outing, Dewdrops in the Garden. The Clash and Earth, Wind and Fire samples helped ignite Deee-Lite's utopia, where phones are never busy ("Why don't you get call-waiting or something?") and a direct link to the dancefloor is as close as the living room studio.

"It was the first record I would make in my house. It revolutionized everything," Dmitry says of Dewdrops. "Towa collaborated until this album. He had just moved to Japan, and the long-distance thing wasn't working too well. Ani [DJ On-E] collaborated on this album as well, so that was a really good, new influence. The programming, the songs and the arrangements were my department. Kier was really active in collecting samples. I can't take credit for it alone."

On Deee-Lite's final tour, Dmitry and Ani shared turntable duties at a rave extravaganza that transformed a north-end ski chalet called the Honeypot into an outer-space landing pod. "Kier moved to London, so the geographic thing has not worked in our favour," says Dmitry. "She used to be my girlfriend and then we broke up and blah, blah, blah." And thus ended Deee-Lite."

Dmitry has been playing in London at a night called Egg or The Egg

Everyone here seems to prefer Dewdrops in the Garden. I liked it a lot when it first came out, but I prefer the two before it.

i blasted it on my mp3 player on the train ride home last night, although i have to say i think i prefer the remxi album mox of it a little better

i loved world clique when it came out, and i loved infinity within, even though it was a little preachy...but i still remember hearing dewdrops for the first time and sitting in the car with my mouth open through the first four or five songs, wondering when it was going to let up. i have fond memories of all three albums, but i think dewdrops is something really special.

A little preachy? I do remember being wowed by Dewdrops... when it first came out. I still like it, but I just am not as fond of it as I once was. Still, it's one of the premiere dance albums of its time.

As a kid, I got caught up in World Clique as I'm sure a lot of folks did that were hooked by "Groove is in the Heart". But I totally didn't follow through with Deee-Lite until some of my raver friends turned me on to Dewdrops and Sampladelic Relics in the mid-90's. I wish I had paid attention all along, cuz I really missed out. I would give anything to have been able to see them live.
