Paris Hilton's "Stars Are Blind" I see that Paris Hilton's video is out. It's not bad. She's got a familiar-sounding voice anyway, and nothing out of the ordinary. Still, not bad. I'm not sure how the rest of the CD will be, but listen for yourself:
http://www.youtube.com/wa...1Qx1d4RKQc It's not overly great, but not the trainwreck it could have been.... [Edited 6/22/06 15:49pm]

I'm so glad I don't like this song now that I have heard it. Initial reports were that it wasn't terrible so I was really scared I might like it. The reggae beat was the clincher. I don't like reggae.
Whew! What a relief. | |

Of course it's unmitigated crap, but everyone knows of Paris...it will either sell ridiculous amounts or bomb. I'm going with the former...

Whew! What a relief. With almost all of your posts..I find myself agreeing with you. I was scared I might like it also, but I also had a feeling of "I won't." For me, the music is only as good as the artist delivering it. Paris Hilton? Not my cup of tea.

Truthfully, the song isn't bad. It's the messenger that ruins it, and I'm not talking about her (lack of) vocal ability. That the song is all sweet and lovey dovey is undercut by the fact that Paris is anything but. It's just phoney.

Has there ever been a more pointless celebrity?
This song is terrible and she is trying so hard to capture what made Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" so sensual, but unsurprisingly she turns it into more of a porn shoot. What more can you expect from an entirely vapid, vacuous waste of space? Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! I can't believe all these people digging it. The press was all about to hate her and all of the sudden they are buying into this album. The single is very medicore and she can barely sing. For those that are attacking Shakira and Nelly, are you trying to say that Paris is better? I actually like those songs because there is a little passion there. Paris sounds like she is asleep. That being said....when I heard "Screwed", the music wasn't bad...OMG, I'm buying into it. I guess my check from the Hiltons cleared.....

I don't know. For example, I bought the Nelly Furtado album based on "Promiscious". I've always liked her songs but never enough to buy a CD. Now if her first single was "Stars Are Blind" and it sounded like that, I would be of the same opinion and probably wouldn't buy the disc.

It reeks of "I want to shoot this in the style of Herb Ritts"...and also has a tad of Herb's "Love Will Never Do Without You" video for Janet in there as well. It's not so much that Paris Hilton irritates the hell out of me, but the least they could have done was not desecrate Herb's memory by doing such a poor job of imitating his work

I'm talking about this one song. I said it "isn't bad." That doesn't equate to good or to me buying the album or single. It's competently produced and listenable at best. No, she can't sing but neither can half the people hitting the charts these days. It's her and the image of herself that she's put out to the media that kills the song. All you need do is check this thread and the others that have been made about the song/video in the past weeks as proof - the vitriol for Paris is virtually inseparable from the criticism of the song.

On the new album does she have a bossa nova/jazz standard on there???I heard this song (the name which I can't remember) in passing on public radio a while ago and never knew where to find it...as a departure from the pop stuff, she does the Brazilian influenced jazz thing in a satisfactory way

I love ska and reggae. Ska is cool. My parents are from the islands so anything really ethnic like reggae or god forbid calypso, I tend to rebuke. They killed me with that stuff growing up.
