Labels as usual are hanging on that old line "sales are down" never mentioning the quality of what they put out and how they put it out sucks. But like i said dont beleive the hype, units are selling more today than ever. Saw an interesting thing about how the labels "juice" up the numbers, someone posted this about Mariah Carey. They asked someone at Billboard if a Remix of a song or a Limited Edition of a cd gets counted towards the running total of a cd. Well u guessed right, when Mariah reissued her MIMI cd with 4 bonus tracks and a DVD the sales from that were added on to the other title, despite carrying a different catlaog number which is read by soundscan, furthering my theory of how phony soundscan is, but i see we continue to take those numbers as if they were law. Also in the post, i was noted that soundscan does NOT count at the register sales it counts Orders by stores that are hooked up to soundscan. Stores/companies then do reorders if needed and submit a ballpark figure. But like the RIAA when they certify, soundscan too is based on shipping to stores, and also does not subtract what the stores send back when they dont sell. So if a company orders 100,000 Nelly Furtado cds and 10,000 sell first week, a chain will most likely report a figure of around 100,000 sold even if they didnt, thats why the 2nd week there is always such a drop off.
