Keane wants to be Coldplay wants to be U2 I just listened to Under The Iron Sea. After all the buildup, is it just another Coldplay record? It's awfully familiar. Pretty stuff, sure, but it's certainly not groundbreaking and I'm just not understanding the hype. His voice is less annoying than Chris Martin's, at least. [Edited 6/17/06 11:05am]

I always thought Bono wanted to sing like Roy Orbison.

My advice:
You like them? Enjoy them. Don't analize. Who needs his music to be groundbreaking? Not me

I have no problem with anyone sounding like anyone, as long as its a good artist. So the whole Keane/Coldplay thing I have no problem with, just remember the sound is and always was a-ha's, long before U2 was doing it, to me u2 didnt start getting that way till "All that U cant", a-ha were there first in 1990 with East of the Sun, and still doing it to this day with there latest "analogue" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Did they actually start using guitars?

a-ha threw away the 'snyths" in 1988. Its now Piano/Guitar/Vocals thats it "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I think he meant Keane
And it's still piano, bass and drums

Keane is a great band. And I'm sorry, they are better than Coldplay to me. Coldplay is over-hyped. They have all ripped from the band prior.
Did anyone think that maybe they sound similar because they are almost all from the same places? Think about it: keane, radiohead, oasis, U2, do I need to go on.

And it's still piano, bass and drums I meant drums, sorry, but i say guitar because mainly a-ha do not feature Bass in their songs, they have a bass player who plays on the records and tours but is not "part" of the band, and really bass is not often heard in their songs "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

The new Keane single sounds a lot like 'Zoo Station' by U2, to these ears at least. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

I've always thought Coldplay and Keane were ripping off Travis. I'm amazed Travis is somehow the group that's the least well known. [Edited 6/17/06 19:38pm] "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I have no idea what you are talking about. Follow the thread. Folks are saying that keane sounds like Coldplay, and Coldplay sounds like old U2, etc. Well most of these band memebers grew up in the same areas.

The core members of Oasis have a completely different class background as the members of the other bands. Some members of Coldplay and Keane indeed (apparently) went to the same school, but that's about it. Oasis have very little to do with the music and values of the other bands mentioned (in terms of British rock music).

[Edited 6/17/06 11:05am] Simple equation for you. Talent = 0 = Keane. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

U2 is incredible! Ah, you were so almost right! U2 are also complete shit. Except for their willfully obtuse period where they self-consciously pretended not to take themselves seriously and unconsciously made some fucking great music, which I cherish (Achtung Baby - Pop, inclusive). yep , and the intro of it is a close resemblance to even better than the real thing too. Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

The music all has the same vibe. Europeans are all into tat right now. Others to add that sound the same: James Blunt, Daniel Powter, KT Tunstall, etc.

Travis only had one really big album, tho'. And I actually think that Coldplay simply have better songs. I never got on with Keane.

I like some of Coldplay's songs a lot (especially "In My Place" and "Shiver"), but on the whole Travis is much more consistent. The first album was hit or miss, but the last 3 have been solid.
