That's cool .
As for the J&L influence . They enriched & boosted up many songcatalogues of artists like Janet , Klymaxx , Cheryl Lynn , Change , etc . But the SOS did a great production themselves for Eddie Kendricks in 1983 . That album's called "I've Got My Eyes On You" which was released on an independent label . And before the J&L-era , the SOS Band had a solid hit with "Take Your Time , Do It Right" , but indeed with the magical duo it lifted up . After that succesful era , they did a few more albums where Mary Davis went solo and was replaced by Fredi Grace , who had recorded 2 solo-albums earlier before . Mary hooked up with the band again later and toured along with the United We Funk-All Stars in the late 90's/early Millenium . Recently she toured with a full-armed SOS Band , including new and original members . The show was tight and vocally i thought Mary sounded better than on an earlier concert around 1986/1987 . Her voice-power was lesser from what i heard on that live-recording . . . . [Edited 6/16/06 10:59am]

For me, they were much better once Jam & Lewis started working with them. As much fun as I think songs like Take Your Time are, it sounded very typical disco. Sure, the worked they did with Jam & Lewis was typical of that sound as well, but it was the best of that sound. I even prefer their work with SOS Band to the work they did with Janet in many way.

Somebody @ Tabu put out an "S.O.S." (get it???), and Jam & Lewis SAVED their asses!!!! Their BIGGEST hit was "Take Your Time (Do It Right)". "High Hopes" got the Jam & Lewis ball rolling, and "Just Be Good To Me" was the TECHNO-FUNK BOMB!!
I'd DARE SAY that Jam & Lewis gave those cats a good 4-5 year extension on their careers. And I'm not being mean, either. Does anything anyone did for them after Jam/Lewis matter????? NO!!!!!

They sound like 2 different bands.
One that was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and one that wasn't. With the exception of Take Your Time, the Jam/Lewis tunes work better for me. This later comp... ...looks pretty slick if you can stand the clipped version of Take Your Time. Just Be Good to Me S.O.S. (Dit Dit Dit Dash Dash Dash Dit Dit Dit) Take Your Time (Do It Right), Pt. 1 Tell Me If You Still Care The Finest High Hopes Just the Way You Like It Weekend Girl Love Won't Wait for Love Groovin' (That's What We're Doin') Have It Your Way Borrowed Love It's a Long Way to the Top Sands of Time No Lies tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Two ? I agree with you that they sounded totally different with Jam and Lewis..in fact, if it wasn´t for them , I wouldn´t like The SOS Band so much. I have most of their albums except for Just The Way You Like It, I didn´t buy that one because I had almost every song in one form or another ( 12"s, EP, etc.) but now that I´ve found out that No One´s Gonna Love You is on that particular album ( thanks to you orgers here) I´m desperately looking for it in second hand stores or fleamarkets on the weekends. Unfortunately, No One´s Gonna Love You is NOT on any of the compilations. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I found a copy of this on tape. but I kinda like this one better. "S.O.S. (Dit Dit Dit Dash Dash Dash Dit Dit Dit)" is a marching band staple. I didn't know it was by the SOS Band until after I graduated high school. [Edited 6/19/06 18:34pm]
