Could you explain it a little better without resorting to insults?

You're a sucker for strong songwriting, solid production and good melodies. I think Bjork is one of the best examples of that combination in the past 15 years. That's why it surprises me that you don't like her. I realize that her voice and her persona are an acquired taste, but her musicality is pretty undeniable if you ask me.

I wasn't insulting you, I was insulting them.

About Bjork, I hate her music. I don't find it pleasant to listen to it at all. It doesn't move me or interest me in the least. She has carefully honed her image to the point where fans think it's a show of brilliant creativity when she wears a swan dress to the Oscars. "Only Bjork," they say. ill I think everything she does is pretentious. She is clearly not for everyone.

I have a problem with Bjork too, I guess. I find her persona vaguely irritating, but I really did make an honest effort to listen to her music since so many people rank her as modern pop's great genius artiste or whatever.

My big issue is her vocals - specifically, I think she has a tendency to dance around the melody rather than actually deliver it. I find her vocals to be a collection of swooshes and yelps and tics that never quite get around to putting the tune across, which makes my listening experience kinda frustrating.

That's just me, though. Lots of people think her records are the finest modern pop has to offer. I really can't stand listening to her, but that's my problem and that's my loss.

There's an element of truth to that. I definitely have a block when it comes to female performers; there are very few I genuinely enjoy.

However, in the same breath I have to turn around and confess that I have no issue whatsoever listening to country female musicians - y'know, your Lorettas, your Patsys, your Dollys and so on. I adore, love them to death.

I dunno, I can't explain it. I'm just a big bundle of musical eccentricities.

I have a friend who's just about the opposite.

Except for the rare excursions into rap and alternative bands, if it's not a chick with a guitar, he's not interested.

i'm compiling mine right now, although i think
it's very hard to put them from 1-50

the top 20 is easy but then it gets so damn
hard to define which is like 31 and which will
be just a little lower at 32
