One of the best entertainers... ...there ever was.
Sammy Davis Jr. showing... http://www.youtube.com/wa...22%2Bdance ...only about 2/5 of his skills. A quintuple-threat (dancer, singer, actor, impersonator, musician). Did I forget anything? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

My friends & I used to debate whether Sammy was an artist or not. Nobody questioned his talent, but does an entertainer create an art of their own?
I tend to say yes, that his act was his art, but it's an interesting question. My Legacy

I tend to say yes, that his act was his art, but it's an interesting question. How about the Art of Entertaining? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

How about the Art of Entertaining? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 Art is about style and expression. This is why I think even Magic Johnson is an artist. Entertainers like Sammy are lucky to have lived when they did. Without film/records, their art would have been lost for good. I imagine there were some incredible performers throughout the years that we will only have descriptions of because they didn't leave behind music, sculpture, paintings, poetry, etc. My Legacy

NICE I didn't realize he did such good impressions
STILL have a clip of him on my Tivo from the Flip Wilson Show singing "Mr. Bojangles" - I swear it's literally THE most beautiful performance I've ever seen in my life Brought me to tears the first few times I saw it, he was an UNBELIEVABLE talent

Don't forget charisma....some people have it and some don't.
Basic 'stage presence' can be taught, but charisma and natural talent cannot. Sammy was born with it....and honed his skills well. "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."
