MJ's "Whatever Happens" I love this song so much. An underrated MJ jam! His vocals are so flawless and Santana's guitar: splendid as always! Love to listen to this at night He gives another smile, tries to understand her side To show that he cares She's consumed with everything that's been goin' on She says [Chorus] Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand Everything will be alright, he assures her But she doesn't hear a word that he says Preoccupied, she's afraid Afraid that what they're doing is not right He doesn't know what to say, so he prays Whatever, whatever, whatever [Chorus] Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand Whatever happens, don't you let go of my hand Don't let go of my hand Don't let go of my hand He's working day and night, thinks he'll make her happy Forgetting all the dreams that he had He doesn't realize it's not the end of the world It doesn't have to be that bad She tries to explain, "It's you that makes me happy," Whatever, whatever, whatever [Chorus] Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand Whatever happens, don't you let go of my hand Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand Whatever happens, don't you let go of my hand Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand [Carlos Santana:] Thank you, man! [Michael Jackson:] Thank you, Carlos! [Edited 6/6/06 16:07pm] [Edited 6/6/06 16:08pm]

I.T.A.!! They dropped the ball, the best track on that album.
That's actually a cool pix of M.J.

I liked this track. I don't see why it wasn't a single. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

Sony did a fucked up promotion with Invincible! Even not being a great mj album, it had excelent songs!

Yes, one of the 3 great tracks of Invincible (along with Butterflies and Break Of Dawn), I love the latin feeling of it.
In 2001, I was hoping he would release it as a single. I think it's one of the few songs that could've been a hit back then.

It took me a while to get into it for some reason, but I love it now. It's a really great song... [Edited 6/6/06 16:15pm]

good song. Barely hear it though Its worth it for jacko's vocals alone. As has been said, it would been a hit on adult radio, and of course, possibally in latin quarters aswell. Its definately one of his more mature cuts.

Great, great, great song.
Was supposed to follow Unbreakable as a single in summer 2002. We all know that story...

Sony did a fucked up promotion with Invincible! Even not being a great mj album, it had excelent songs! I agree, the album isn't spectacular but there are a handful of great songs that really should have been singles: "Whatever Happens" "Heaven Can Wait" "Break Of Dawn"

I like the song a lot, but find the brief dialogue at the end between MJ and Santana excruciating.

I chopped that part off the song when I was re-doing the album with my "corrected" tracklisting

It could have been worse. Carlos: Oh man! Look at that girl right there! Goodness gracious! That girl fine mang! Look at the…… oh! She's just too fine she know she fine too! Michael: She is muy caliente’. Carlos: Ooh, she's smooth! Michael: Maria looks hot, you're right. Carlos: She would look good in my line of women’s shoes. Michael: Carlos, I can get her... Carlos: You can't get that girl, Miguiel. I guarantee you can't get that girl! You can’t make her change her evil ways mang. Michael: Watch me get that girl! Carlos: I bet you never Neverland you can't! If you lose you have to record a duet with me and Prince…. Written by Rob Thomas. I’ll get Clive on my cell phone. Michael: I can get her! You guys play some music so I can dance over there and talk to her. Carlos: All right. Guys, let’s play Oya Como Va’. (Organ chords come in) Michael: “That’s not Billie Jean. Oh well.” [Edited 6/7/06 3:35am] "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

I know Invincible gets trashed a lot but I still think there were at least another four singles to be gotten mileage from. Shame.

Invincible has some excellent tracks on it, agreed. But why worry about charts, singles, sales, critics, etc? Sure there could have been more hits on it, but we can say the same about half a dozen Prince albums too - Just enjoy great music!! I agree. I'm just eternally baffled by comments like "It was crap as there were no singles from it", which I hear all the time. By that measure Sgt. Pepper must be crap, too.

How could he when Sony dropped it? It's not like he could've released singles without their permission.

True, but MJ himself needs to stop presenting things as if the sales are important to him, and the critics also need to stop measuring the quality of his work on sales, or the colour of his skin or whatever scandal he was going through at the time. I'm sick of it being a common presentation to the public like it's a fact that every one of his albums is worse than the one before. It's lazy and it's boring.
