Anx said: "Former Lover" by Saint Etienne, from their "Tiger Bay" album. The music is so gorgeous and Sarah Cracknell's vocals are so beautiful - sad and comforting at the same time, and so perfectly understated - listening to it is like pulling a big heavy blanket around myself on a cold Chicago winter day. Sigh. (and of course, this gives me another reason to post a picture of the distractingly adorable ms. cracknell. ) there's some dude from the charlatans posing with her, but i don't know WHO could possibly be interested in HIM. [Edited 6/2/06 23:41pm] where the FUCK did you get that picture? :swoon: two of the most adorable people in pop music. ever. period. ...endo sets his new computer background...

I was beginning to think I was the only one. Glad I was wrong! My choices would be "Distant Sun", "Fall at Your Feet" and the incredible "Four Seasons in One Day" though. The latter must be one of the best pop songs ever written, I have no clue why no one knows it.
I'd say those would all qualify. There's no shortage of beautiful Crowded House songs. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Bic Runga - Sway Jimi Tenor - Call Of The Wild Vernon Reid - Uptown Drifter Fairlight Chidren - Falling Out Hah! I have very recent photos of her with (guess who ) Jimmy Page. He went to see her perform in London recently, and was very impressed. I personally, have never heard her music though. I think her second album, Beautiful Collision, is her best, but all three are good. You've heard "Sway" if you've seen the movie American Pie. Bic Runga is awesome. She's one of the best contemporary pop song writers around, people just don't know of her because she's from New Zealand.
Listen, I'm gonna put it like it is: if I like some mainstream pop that much musician she's got to be really good. [Edited 6/4/06 12:31pm]

Damn, I just checked her tourdates and found out that she played in Oxford last night!!! She'll come back here in a few weeks, but as a support act for James Blunt, and there's no way to get me to buy a concert ticket for James fucking Blunt!!!

Indeed, Bic is great live. I saw her open for the Finn Brothers last year. Neil actually played in her band for her latest album, Birds. It also doesn't hurt that she's easy on the eyes... "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I can't wholly recommend the album, though there's some decent stuff on it. There's a 2nd disc with some weird jams with Frank Zappa, including one called Scumbag! My Legacy
