Calling all guitar players

Check out this cat He has been around for years and I have yet to read one mention of him on this site. Imagine the talent that would show up at a guitar playing contest in New York? Imagine winning that contest two years straight. I have had the privledge of not only witnessing this cat's live performances on at least ten occasions but also meeting him personally. When we talk about tasteful playing, his name comes to mind. In fact early in his career when he was participating in those guitar playing contest, well known axemen who had record deals would not show their face in his presence, he is just that talented on guitar. Who am I talking about? Go to www.larrymitchell.com

Hey Minn, Sallysassalot, VoicesCarry, here's your "non-mainstream" artist topic to rip to shreds if you dare.

I'd invite you to visit www.philkeaggy.com. Phil has an amazing diversity of sounds and styles, the most comprehensive guitarist I've ever heard.

He and Larry Mitchell sound alike, at some points.

My pleasure. If you ever hear of him playing in your area, jump at the chance. He does a killer solo acoustic show.

Back in the day Larry was with Ibanez. He played a guitar that later was copied into the Joe Satriani model and Satch was hating on him in discussions with Ibanez. He is very unsung and talented guitarist.

Also, a moment of silence for Gordon Gaines and Shawn Lane.

No, I had a buddy of mine named Paul Pattan who've moved to NY and he was guitar buddies with Gordon. It really f***** his mind up when Gordon passed because he was so talented. He played tapes of some of the shows they did together and it was amazing!

Same here. I use to drive up to NY from Philly at least once a month and I would catch Gordon's show at the Bitter End and Continetial all the time. Is your friend Paul still performing? If so I got to check him out.

This cat was scary good.
Eventually branched out into playing with musicians from India.
A good friend of mine that played with him in Black Oak Arkansas (when he was just a kid) turned me on to him.

man, he'll be here June 8! i really wanna go, but have too much going on at the moment. if i knew he'd be doing some of his more abstract stuff with a lot of bizzare solos, i'd go for sure. Judging from the other people accompanying him, it seems as if it's gonna be a more jazz/country type of set. hmmm if you hear anything else about it, let me know. PLEASE!! lol

Shawn was an aquaintence of mine. He is missed. A true guitar virtuoso. He literally is probably the best guitarist I've ever met personally and I know a lot of guitarists. Props on this thread. Greg Howe is my current favorite but that's always subject to change. smile

Ndeed!! I first heard Shawn on a CD compilation called Centrifugal Funk. that Cd, along with Truth in Shredding, featured Shawn along with players like Allan Holdsworth , Frank Gambale and Brett Garsed ... truly Smokin!!

Larry Mitchell's bad, too!(and he Has been mentoned here a few times, btw)... I first saw larry on a video called The Crunch - live in New York which featured bassist TM Stevens, along with Eddie Hazel, Bernie Worrell, and Jean Paul Bourelly, but Mitchell put in the strongest performance of the night, IMO....

Larry Mitchell always gets props here - I've been aware of him since the Guitar World feature on him way back in '89 (if I remember correctly). He gave props to P back then - pretty cool article. One thing's fer sure - he sure is faithful to Ibanez!

You'd be faithful too if you had a endorsement deal like he has. Ibanez needs guitarist like Larry to sell their products, Larry does not need Ibanez guitars to showcase his talent, but he likes their money for sure.

No need to preach to the choir smile I read the interview with him (via a link on his website) on how he came to be associated with Ibanez. It's funny how he hated the Fender HM Strats but Greg Howe played 'em for years. Both great players!!!
