 That's gonna be Sweet!! I caught Marcus last Saturday here in Maryland, doing a promo in a local Music Shop (Chuck Levin's, in Wheaton, MD). Needless to say, the house was SRO - and Marcus rocked it!!

From first note to last, it really was unreal. Sometimes you get a concert, that's not just a concert...but an experience. This was one.

It's not something you translate thu words. It's an experience thing. I'm still walking with this one. Still enjoying it. Don't want to decipher it with words, yet. Just a bit... i'll start with Hargrove (since he opened). Jazz-hip-hop-funk magic. Not clumsy or chunky bits of funk here. stop. jazz here. stop. hip-hop here etc... They homogenized it...made their own candy out of it. Not sure what they laced it with...but I had some and I'm still buzzin. Hargrove, in many ways, embodies elements of Miles. As for the band: He, like Miles, surrounds himself with the best. Horn section: You just gotta hear it. The girl: Well, she danced around shaking some little percussion thing...'til she put that down and picked up a horn...'til she put that down to sing....And they all seem to be multi faceted that way. That drummer: How do you explain that one?...voo-doo maybe. That's all I could come up with. So, that's a bit...without the wrapper off. I will get around to this... today/tomorrow.
