Madonna's "Like it or Not"

This just came up on my Ipod. Cool song and very different for Madonna.

"Like It Or Not"

You can call me a sinner
You can call me a saint
Celebrate me for who I am
Dislike me for what I ain't

Put me up on a pedestal
Or drag me down in the dirt
Sticks and stones will break my bones
But your names will never hurt

I'll be the garden
You be the snake
All of my fruit is yours to take
Better the devil that you know
Your love for me will grow
Because

[Chorus]
This is who I am
You can
Like it or not
You can
Love me or leave me
Cus I'm never gonna stop
No no

Cleopatra had her way
Matahari too
Whether they were good or bad
Is strictly up to you

Life is a paradox and it doesn't make much sense
Can't have the Femme without the Fatale
Please don't take offense

Don't let the fruit rot under the vine
Fill up your cup and let's drink the wine
Better the devil that you know
Your love for me will grow
Because

[Chorus X2]

no no you know [repeat]

I'll be garden
You'll be the snake
All of my fruit are yours to take
Better the devil that you know
Your love for me will grow
Because

[Chorus]

no no you know [repeat]

It can't be, a thread dedicated to her music!!! lol

And it's a great album closer, and i love the lyrics.

Of course i like almost every song on the album except Push. Strange because Push was one of the first songs that captured my attention when i first heard it. Died really quickly though.

The rhythm of it seems kinda like `70s sleaze. Love it.

I think "Get Toether" is the best song, but "Like It Or Not" is probably the third best song, imo.

i always think it's rather strange that she mention cleopatra
and matahari as references, since we all know how they came
to their untimely end.

Funny,I think "Push" should have been a single. It has a funky,R&B flavor and probably would have been the "breakout" hit from this CD (in the States).

I love the entire album except for "How High".

EXCELLENT song.

This was the first song I heard after hung-up. (When the album was leaking) and it made me VERRRRY excited. I still like it and think it's a great closer to a solid album.

I agree,it's a great closer for the album.Notice how the song ends with just acoustic guitar. It gives you the feeling that the party is over, the disco lights are now turned off and it's time to go home.Kinda sad, actually lol

Its strange, I just dont "get" this song. I dont like the way she sings it, too low for her, the beat is too plodding, and i find the lyrics silly and cliched. Id even go so far as to say its my least favourite song on the album. I hope she brings some energy to it in the live performance or else this will definitely be the song where the show comes off the rails.

interestingly, this song ends the second "act" of the show. This is the serious part of the show. She sings it after "Live To Tell","Forbidden Love","Isaac" and "Sorry".It's as if she is making no apologies for the controversial stuff that just took place (hanging on a cross during "Live To Tell"....the implied homosexuality of "Forbidden Love",etc). In this context,I think it will be an intriguing segment.

I didn't like it at first, still don't think it's a great closer. But hearing it out, on a good system, I suddenly realized what a beautiful production it is.
